Not the cartoon character, I mean the person using the name on here.

Keeps sending me pm’s trying to threaten me, like “See you soon, knobhead” and such like.

As I have said to him, come and say it to my face….but he won’t will he?

Easy to play the ‘hard man’ behind a screen, isn’t it?

Dave – Let me firstly remind you that it was you who sent me a threatening PM a long time ago, I replied and haven`t logged in for weeks. When I did the other day I had a PM from you in my inbox. I can swear on my childrens life I never sent the first one. Would you ? I am simply choosing to respond in the open as I feel everyone should get to witness another trademark Dave From Skem meltdown.

The internet is tired of you Dave, you’ve been fired off Mudhuts for racism, This Northern Soul for offering to baseball bat someone, Wiganer.net for being an hysterical loon and Cockney Latic more than once. While you may have your personal opinions, your constant resorting to racism removes any attempt you make to appear erudite.

Oh and you can look up erudite on Wikipedia like you do the rest of your claims.

You bang on acting the expert on football even though you change your mind from week to week, thing is you`ve never actually kicked a ball in anger. It`s no surprise really as you`ve obviously always been on the portly side. In all my years playing in Wigan Ammy leagues and my 6 years a Skem taxis the name Dave Gars has never ever popped up. The phrase that springs to mind about you is “know all, done fcuk all”

Dave the big internet hardman who has typed and typed and typed on every Latics board in he hope of being a Mr Wigan Athletic and even went to the trouble of interviewing HIMSELF in the hope of being in the “Latics through and through” section of the fanzine. that`s right the interviewer and interviewee

Inernet hardman who threatens legal action when people upset him

A search for my favourite ever Dave From Skem description brings up

Dave From Skem – Writer, singer songwriter, forthcoming documentary maker , interviewer & guest on the same show, succesful buisnessman & all round liar. Hates fans who don`t go to Everton but enjoys commentating on games he doesn`t go to. Infamously banned from Mudhutsmedia for racism and remains to this day the only person to ever get the honour. Gave himself the title of “The Robbie Savage Of The Internet”. Rumoured not to be a good mixer with people. Lazy eye

So Dave, as a young lad living in Skem, how did you end up watching Wigan, rather than jumping on the Merseyside bandwagon?

“Well, at first, my dad and I went watching our local team, Skem United, in the North West Counties League. They didn’t have a bad team at the time, and had some decent players at that level. A lad called Ian Hodge was a good goal-scorer, and they also had a lad in midfield, Keith Tierney, who had been on Everton’s books. He was like a non-league Tony Kelly, in that he was a decent player, but he carried a lot of weight with a big beer gut. Skem played against teams such as Droylsden, Flixton, and Great Harwood Town. My mate’s mum ran the tea bar at White Moss Park, so we ended up with free pies and drinks if we ‘helped out’. (Hindered, more like). However, I had been pestering my dad to take me to a ‘proper’ match. Originally, my dad’s from Shevington. He’d never been what you could call a regular supporter of Latics, but he’d been to a few games in the 70’s. Motorbikes were more his thing. So on May 3rd, 1986, my dad took me to watch Latics for the first time. It was the last game of the season, and they were playing Wolves. Now for some reason, I had a liking for Wolves, and I think that’s why he took me to that particular game. My first ever kit, was a Wolves style strip. I also collected Panini stickers, and I think the Wolves badge caught my eye, as things like that do with kids. Anyway, we arrived at Springfield Park and I can still remember emerging in the Phoenix stand. Now to me, it could just as well have been the Nou Camp, or San Siro. I remember saying “Wow, it’s like Wembley!” Obviously it wasn’t, but to a young kid it was great. The match finished 5-3 to Latics. Unfortunately, I can’t remember much about the game. We couldn’t get a programme, as they’d sold out. I eventually got one about 15 years later! I still have my ticket stub, too. I think Wolves got relegated that season, and I’m almost sure that it was Warren Aspinall’s last game. What a first ever league game though, 8 goals! It was the following season when we started going to every home game, though for some reason, we missed the first few games. We started going, just as Bobby Campbell had signed for Latics. We’ve had season tickets ever since.”

Growing up in Skem, did you get much stick about following ‘Little Wigan’?

“Oh yes, most certainly! Mostly off so-called Liverpool and Everton fans, who had never been to a game in their lives. Especially so at secondary school, when I would wear my Latics kit in P.E. Also, I didn’t have a ‘plastic’ scouse accent, like a lot of people. Yes, a lot ARE genuine scousers. But a lot put it on, as well. I didn’t. I’m an old ‘Skemmer’ who’s dad is from Shevington, and my mum was an original Old Skemmer. I always stuck out with my broad accent, and had a few scraps in school because of it. Don’t forget, there used to be a real animosity between Wiganer’s and Scousers, not like now. But yeah, I always got stick, and the “Wigan are s**t” type of comments. Didn’t put me off though, did it.” (What price loyalty?)

So Dave, where was your spot, at Springfield Park?

“Well at first, my dad and I sat in the Phoenix stand. It was alright, and the view was pretty good. Then they opened the ‘Heinz Family Enclosure’, situated under the Phoenix stand, and we went in there. It was great for kids. There were only a few who went in there, and they had free raffles every game, drawn by a player who wasn’t playing that day, who would be the guest. I won allsorts, shirts, signed pictures, it was great. The view from there was good too. I sat right next to the tunnel, so I always got autographs easily. I also saw some unsavoury incidents too, such as the brawl in the tunnel with Sunderland, after a 2-2 draw in 1988. The match ended with Steve Senior scoring a controversial equalizer in the last minute for Wigan. It kicked off in the tunnel, in full view of us kids. I seem to recall local media hack, Dave Swanton, getting a clout of Sunderland defender, Gary Bennett. I may be wrong. Also, there was a time when the ref had been abysmal. He was getting stick from all quarters, and as he passed me, up the tunnel for half time, ‘muggins’ here decided to chuck a carton of chips at him. Well, they hit him, and next thing, he’s pointing me out to a copper. My dad was saying “Don’t be soft, he’s only 12!” Nevertheless, the copper was on his way round as I was packed off quickly round the Springfield end, to avoid arrest! As I reached my teens, we moved onto the terrace, and our regular spec became halfway up on the halfway line, on the St Andrew’s terrace. Say what you want about Springfield Park, but when the three thousand or so crowd got behind the team, it was partisan. I certainly think it was a better atmosphere than the JJB. It was tighter, more compact, and the majority of people sang their hearts out. Great days.”

What did you think of the Supporters Club at Springfield Park?

“Fantastic, absolutely fantastic. I had my first beer there. It was great to go in there after the game, and get the scores on the telly. You’d have Joe, Joe Mills and Jeff Rourke (Wigan’s statto) in the corner taking coach bookings for away trips, and it was a lovely atmosphere. There were pennants from clubs all over the world on the walls, and it was a great place to chat about the one thing that pulled us all together, Latics. I remember when we won the third division championship, in 1997, and the team came in, still in their strips and with the trophy. Mr Whelan stood on the stage and made a speech, and we all cheered. It was a more ‘homely’ club in those days, for sure. We’ve never replaced the old supporters club, and that’s one thing the JJB lacks”.

What are the most memorable games, from your time as a supporter?

“Obviously, the Reading game was an amazing day, unbelievable. But over the years, there have been many memorable games, but for different reasons. My first away game was the league cup game, at Burnden Park, Bolton, in 1987. Bobby Campbell scored a great hat trick, and it was a wonderful night. Also, there were the Wembley appearances in 1999 and 2000. Winning in injury time against Millwall was superb. However it was hard to take getting beat, late on against Gillingham, in 2000. I was sat next to the steps at Wembley, and shook hands with all the Gillingham players, who were saying “You’ll do it next year!” in a nice kind of way. I even shook hands with Andy Hessenthaler, who’d had a load of stick off our fans. He was a bit sheepish, but credit, where credits due, he was man of the match, that day. The away day at Huddersfield, the day when we clinched the 2nd division championship. Was fantastic too. With around 5,000 of our fans packing the away end at the McAlpine stadium. Another away trip that sticks out, for some unknown reason, is the trip to Watford in about 1991 for an FA Cup game. I remember the coach stopped off at some pub near Watford, and we had these massive hot beef sandwiches. It was a dreadful day, pouring down. Vicarage Road was still a lot of terracing then, and the away end was where the home end is now. They were a division higher than us, but still played a rather negative FIVE man midfield, beating us 2-0 with goals by Glenn Roeder and Glyn Hodges.”

                        Favourite away trip and grounds?

“In the old days, I really liked going to Leeds Road, Huddersfield’s old ground. It was a proper, old, traditional type ground, with a huge terrace, along the side, and it had that kind of ‘ye-olde’ atmosphere, but in a good way. Trouble is, they usually had the beating of us! The snack bar on the away terrace, sold some chewing gum, which I loved, and they had a ‘programme shop’ on a corner, opposite the ground. I really enjoyed the Bournemouth weekender in 2000. Approximately 2000 Wiganer’s went down there for the weekend, and it was fantastic. Of an evening, there was a high Police presence, as they were expecting some trouble. But the fans were a credit to Wigan, and drank the night away accordingly! It was a good night out, Bournemouth. Even though my dad and me got lost on the way back to our hotel, and ended up in Poole! The weather was red-hot that weekend. A fantastic away trip. I don’t mind the Hawthorns at West Brom. I remember in 1993, when we went there and got stuffed 5-1, at the end of our relegation season. Their fans were really nice afterwards, with the “Hard luck and unlucky” gestures. It’s all very different now though, with quite a bit of animosity generated on message boards on the Internet. Sad really. Wolves, however, has ALWAYS been a dodgy trip, with Gilly Shaw and his boys knocking about. I always enjoyed going to the Bescot Stadium at Walsall, where they sold great ‘Balti’ pies. Leicester’s ‘Walkers Stadium’ was a good trip, and a good result 2-0, too. I liked the stadium. I think Pride Park Derby, is good too. If a little out of the way.
In the Premiership, I really liked Charlton’s ground. It’s nicely laid out, and has a good atmosphere to it. Everton and Liverpool have been good days out too, with plenty pubs and a good vibe. The Sing Fong chippy, behind the Kop at Anfield, is superb. With us staying up, I’m looking forward to going there next season!”

Any dodgy incidents, in your time as a fan?

Yes, when I was about 14, we beat Stockport at Springfield in a cup match. Afterwards, four of them had a go at my dad and me on Douglas Bank Drive, near Springfield Park. We got away unscathed, but it was unnerving, and there was no need for it. The lads were in their twenties. I’ve longed to meet up with the fat, ginger, dick that tried to shove my dad in a lamppost. Mind you, we don’t play Stockport much these days. Wolves is always dodgy, too. Their Police are as bad as the fans. It’s like they instigate trouble, and want it to happen, as we saw on our last visit.

Do you always read MEF, and do you read any other fanzines?

“Yes, I always try and read MEF. I also quite often get ‘United We Stand’, as it’s a good read. I’ve also read ‘The City Gent’, which is Bradford City’s, and ‘Grorty Dick’, which was a West Brom fanzine. I always used to get Everton’s ‘When Skies Are Grey’ too, which was always a good read. The first one I ever got was Cockney Latic, in 1989.”

                        Favourite Latics Player?

“I think it’s a hard call between Andy Liddell and Arjan De Zeeuw. Both are fantastic professionals, and great servants to Latics, giving nothing but 100% to the club. Obviously ‘Arry’ has had two spells with us, and was great in both, though his age caught up with him. With ‘Lidds’, I always thought that when we had him on the field, no game was ever lost until the final whistle, he was THAT good for us. So I’m going for both of them, as I can’t split them”.

You were apparently quite ‘infamous’ with Paul Jewell for sending him letters and also recommendations of players he should look at. What’s the story?

“In 2002, I was in Prague. I went to watch Sparta Prague play in a Champions League game against RC Genk, of Belgium (Featuring one Josip Skoko). There was some good football played, at a high tempo. However, one guy, a blonde chap really stood out in the Sparta midfield. He looked good on the ball, and he managed to score two really good goals, one a free kick from 40 yards. That player was Jiri Jarosik, who eventually did arrive at Chelsea. My dad and I both agreed that he would “End up in the Premiership”. So I kept my eye on him, and of course with the Internet, it’s a lot easier these days. So he was one player I wrote to Jewell about. I heard nothing. In 2004, during our promotion season, I was in Poland and watched Wisla Krakow. They had two strikers who both looked good. One was Tomasz Frankowski, and the other was Maciej Zurawski.(Who ended up at Celtic, and has done well) I kept an eye on them, and they continued to score freely. It was towards the end of our promotion season, and we had just slipped up against Sunderland and West Ham. I was so worried, I wrote a letter to Jewell, which was highly critical of the players. I was just scared we were going to blow our best chance ever, of reaching the Premiership. A couple of days later, I was astounded when Paul Jewell rang me, at home. In the main, it was to defend his players, who I had called ‘Unprofessional’. He was ‘seething’ at that, he said. I agreed I was wrong to say that, apologised, and he accepted it. He went on to say I made some good points, such as that Baines looked tired, and that Ellington looked ‘off the boil’. He told me that the following Saturday, at Cardiff, they’d be rested. (They were)He mentioned the Polish players I’d recommended, and said that as a club we probably weren’t in a position to go for, and would struggle to attract, such players, at that time. Maybe he was right? (Or maybe he just had this ‘inferior club’ thing in his mind a bit too much?) He spent about 20 minutes chatting to me, and came across as a great bloke. My respect for him was increased wholesale. For a manager to take time out to do that, and reply to a fan, well, that’s great. I had written a good letter though, with constructive as well as critical points. I was just frightened we were going to blow our promotion chances, that’s all. The following season, I recommended a player, Alexander Madlung, a central defender, who I had seen a few times playing for Hertha Berlin, in the Bundesliga. Again, I heard nothing back. I didn’t mind. Later, I approached Jewell at the ‘Fans forum’ night he did. I introduced myself, and he said, leaning close so he could whisper “So you’re the F***** chief scout?”. He was laughing though. I thought it was great, actually. I could never understand when people mocked me for telling the club about a possible decent player. Are you not supposed to try and HELP the club you support? Don’t forget, if someone hadn’t tipped Wigan off about a promising young Liverpool reserve striker in the early eighties (Jewell), then our club could have been VERY different. I’m not claiming to be Matt Busby, but I honestly think I know a good player when I see one”.

Now Paul Jewell has gone, how do you think the club will do, under Chris Hutchings?

“I’m feeling very positive about the future. A lot of people cried out for a ‘high-profile’ appointment, when Paul Jewell resigned. However, Mr Whelan obviously preferred to go for continuity, rather than radical change. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, and I like how Chris Hutchings has started off. (He took over the job 3 days ago, as I write this) His comments in the first few days have been nothing less than positive. Today, as I write, Arjan De Zeeuw and David Unsworth have been released. That’s fair enough, I think, as both were just about over the hill. I just hope we can bring some good player in and start off the season well, and with confidence. Let’s all get behind Chris Hutchings, 100%”.

What do you think of Latics fans and the club itself?

“I think that there is a hardcore who are truly fantastic fans. They’ve stuck with the club through thick and thin, organizing whip rounds to help the club, helping pay wages, etc. A lot of people do things voluntarily, which is great. We do have some fans though who are really hard to please. I sometimes think we could sign Ronaldinho, and some would say, “He’s too fancy, him”. I think that is the mentality of Wiganers! That’s not a dig, I just think it boils down to the fact that a lot of people come down that way, looking for negatives, rather than positives. As a Premier League club we are unique. We’ll never be a ‘massive’ club, I don’t think, but we can be a thriving, successful club, nonetheless. Our success has seen our support grow massively, in the space of ten years. That’s great, but any fans who have only witnessed the good times, of recent years, will also have to be prepared to stick by the club when things don’t run so smoothly. And it WILL happen, one day. Though hopefully not for a while! One thing that is apparent, is that we have a lot of young children attending games now. That’s great. They are the future of the club. That never used to happen, a few years ago. To see so many coming through the gates gives me a great deal of hope for our clubs longevity. Long may that continue. I know some fans have organised the LISA group. I’m not entirely sure of just what the group is about, and entails. But from what I hear, they are an independent voice of the fans, and are there to liase with the club about matters surrounding the club, and the supporters. That can’t be a bad thing at all, I wish them all the best”.

You’ve been, shall we say, a rather ‘active’ contributor on Latics message boards, over the past couple of years. What do you make of them?

“Yes, I have. To be honest, I’ve been a bit of a ‘wind-up merchant’ and a bloody fool at times on them! But ‘hey-ho’. No, seriously, I’ve had lots of fall-outs with people, mainly because I speak my mind. Sometimes I’m too honest, and forthright with my opinions, which some people don’t like. I’ve said some things I regret, and some things that I don’t. I’ve certainly aimed some scathing comments at people, such as Jimmy, which were totally uncalled for, and to be honest, childish. It was wrong, very wrong, and I have apologised. I sometimes let my passion for Latics overrule my head. I certainly have no animosity towards anybody, as I think that, for the most part, things said on a message board should be taken lightly anyway. I see them as a way for passing club news and information on to other fans, and also discussing the happenings at the club with likeminded people. I don’t really bother that much on them now, being honest. I can be too controversial with my opinions. I tend to say things as I see them, which is to the chagrin of some people. The way I see it, they are a place to express thoughts and opinions. I’ve gone over the top, at times, but I do also think I’ve made some good contributions to them”.

Away from football, what else are you interested in?

“Well, I like to keep myself busy! For the past couple of years, I’ve been running my own transport business. I’ve recently decided to sell it, and I’m waiting to complete the sale. Away from that, I like to spend time with my family, and enjoy travelling. I’d never been abroad, or flown, until 2001. Since then, I’ve flown 50 times, all over the world. So you could say I’m making up for lost time! I love seeing different places. I’ve spent a lot of summertime over in Prague. It’s a great city. Lots to see and do. I also love Krakow, in Poland. Which is like Prague, only smaller. Great place.
A great passion of mine, is WW2 history, especially Airborne troops, and the German Paratroopers, or ‘Fallschirmjager’, as they were known. As well as that, I like country walks, reading, and playing guitar. I like nothing better than taking a good book to Haigh Hall gardens, and sitting on a lawn, with a good book, with the only sound being birdsong, on a warm, sunny, summers day, with some Wensleydale cheese and an apple. Lovely. Or having a family picnic.. I also look forward to when my baby son is old enough to take to Latics. That will be great”

Suppose it is in some cases. But in Daves case he did it because no matter how many times he emailed begging be interviewed he got no joy. So took it on himself to do it himself. He was so so desperate to make a name for himself

I wonder if he did the interview in a mirror using 2 different voices and perhaps alternating with his baseball cap on and off :S

Never mind he will be off on a world tour soon with his new backing band…..Scouting For Jewell
