only 2 of the worst teams in premiership history and liquidation of others prolonged our tenuous grip in the big league.
and i will predict again, depite the pre season euphoria on here, unless whelan gets rid of ‘don quixote’ and his brown shoes we are heading for obscurity.

I’d say it’s the other way round, and Roberto needs to break free from Whelan, and being forced to do the job with so much restraint.
(Horrible feeling Bramble and one other player will leave. I’m thinking Figueroa. We spent 6 million on Boselli, and Jack will want to recoup it)

So, you’re intending to adopt the same one-trick pony stance (well two, if you include the brown shoes jibe) for this season as well, are you? Fair enough, you’re entitled to your opinion, but there’s no point banging my head against the wall responding to you if all you can say is he’s shyt. Again.

It wasn’t Dave Whelan that insisted on playing 4-5-1 when it was clear to every man & his dog that we didn’t have the personnel to play that system
It wasn’t Dave Whelan that signed Scotland & Gomez to loud fanfare telling everyone that they’d have no trouble adapting to the top flight & then changed his mind when they’d flopped & said he’d only ever wanted to ease them in
It wasn’t Dave Whelan who made baffling & bizzare team selections & substitutions all season long
It wasn’t Dave Whelan who chose to bring in 2 coaches with not 1 single minute top flight playing or coaching experience
It wasn’t Dave Whelan who insisted on forcing a method of play onto some players who quite clearly weren’t good enough to play that way & yet refused to change his methods
It wasn’t Dave Whelan who didn’t sign players because he thought that, even though previous managers had seen sense & dropped them because they weren’t good enough, they were good enough
The only thing you can accuse Whelan of is making his managers operate within a budget that isn’t going to cripple the club a la Pompey. That wouldn’t have changed the many things that Bobby got wrong last season (or the things he got right)

But it was Whelan who said he wouldn’t entertain foreign managers, then signed somebody with no top flight experience and who isn’t English.
