Creativity absent if Powell isn’t on blob, so wondering who steps up to the plate on the many occasions he isn’t about.
Macca is a possibility otherwise I just don’t see we have an option.7 October 2018 at 8:59 pm #172304And if reports in the press are anything to go by he’s already knocked back a deal at Wigan.
My view is, if £8-10 million was on the table in the summer we should have sold him there and then nevermind the player saying I’m happy. At the end of the day Latics is a business and £10million can go a long way.
With only 12 months left on he’s contract we should have put the new deal on the table in the summer not now.
Now Powell can play till Jan then pre-sign a deal to join whoever in the summer. Someone will end up with bargain on a free and he’ll get paid far better wages due to the no signing fee.
And why we can’t hold of him ? ….this stupid p1ss arse takeover which hangs over the club like a lingering chesty cough.
I’m pretty sure this so called takeover has had a massive bearing on what was on the table for Powell. With no investment he’ll have no choice but to leave with the club been the big loser.
If DW had of been in charge he would have sold him for £8-10million especially with only 12 months left on his current deal.
Now we run the risk of getting sweet F.A for an excellent player all because no one knows who’s gonna be footing the wage bill come next season.
7 October 2018 at 9:30 pm #172305Powell’s chose to stay yes he could of been sold but it was the players choice to stay.
That says something he wants to stay he has been Man Utd and a few others and we have had so many move greedy players in the past let’s see.8 October 2018 at 12:23 am #172306“And if reports in the press are anything to go by he’s already knocked back a deal at Wigan”
Tomorrow’s chip wrappings. The source being someone’s uncle who had their hair cut by someone whose next door neighbour knows someone who works on the concourse beer bar.
Knocked back a deal, even if true, could well mean “rejected an initial offer” – it’s called negotiation.
8 October 2018 at 12:44 am #172307At the moment I am more worried about his injury and whether he will be back for the West Bromwich game.
8 October 2018 at 3:26 am #172308Correct Donny lad, and had whelan sold him for 10m in the summer everyone would have hit the roof.
8 October 2018 at 12:33 pm #172311Plenty players say “I didn’t want to leave it was the club’s decision” Windass been one. It’s a business at the end of the day and sometimes you have to sell your prize assets to reinvest and move forward.
In our predicament with a total lack of investment £10million would have gone a long long way.
I certainly wouldn’t have complained had he gone for that kind of money I would have said, good business.
Clubs like Wigan simply cannot afford to let high value players run out their contracts it does not make finantial sense. This should have been done and dusted with Powell in the summer and if we couldn’t make it happen then we should have sold him them.Nevermind the player saying “I’m happy”. Our squad as not good strong enough, take a look at Saturday’s bench, it hardly set the world alight.
Powell won’t get us up on his own so if he goes I’m sure we’ll be content with finishing 21st as someone kindly pointed out.
I’d sooner be at a fiantually stable club no matter what Division were in rather than be like Uni Utd up the road with the big grey cloud hanging over them waiting for the heavens to open and wash em away (hopefully) -
