Huron are a Whelan owned property development company. That’s 2.2 million they can turnover without paying tax. The site is sandwiched between lots of developed and development land and at that price if the family did ever leave Latics then the 2.2 million could be a very canny investment. Saying that we have gained a first class facility without cash leaving the club. Would have been nice to have been a simple Wigan Athletic purchase but face it nothing is ever quite what it seems in the crazy world of football finance.

Various parts are owned by different companies so that if one fails the rest don’t fall. So if the fooiball club were to go broke (which thanks to sound financial management at the moment seems unlikely) then the stadium and the training facilities are not at risk of having to be sold to service any debt.
