Carson
Boyce Ramis Barnett
Perch Huews Forshaw Taylor
Macmanaman Waghorn MaloneyPick that xI on a regular basis and we wouldn’t be far out
16 September 2014 at 1:37 pm #133487Football has changed from the 1980s.
Teams no longer pick the same XI week in, week out, playing the same formation and style.
The game is far more dynamic now, selecting starting XIs by a whole variety of parameters – opponents, home or away, player fitness, player form, pitch conditions etc etc. Then during the match things are changed constantly (both team on the pitch and formation) to counter how the opponents are playing, what the score is, what weaknesses the manager identifies in either team, what strengths he identifies that he can utilise, and so on.
The game is far different now.
16 September 2014 at 2:53 pm #133488But it doesnt have to be different. Burnley pissed promotion last season with a regular two up front and a consistent team and style.
If a player was injured they moved a similar player into that same position.
Not rocket science but it worked.
Latics under Herr Tinkerman change everthing too often.17 September 2014 at 1:51 am #133493didn’t he start the same xi tonight that played saturday
17 September 2014 at 1:57 am #133496Yep but need to get the right starting eleven before you stop changing it….how is Maloney not getting on?
17 September 2014 at 1:58 am #133497Yep but need to get the right starting eleven before you stop changing it….how is Maloney not getting on?I don’t know. But then I don’t see them in training every day or have constant reports of their fitness.
17 September 2014 at 2:11 am #133498Neither do I but I’m pretty confident that if maloneys on the bench he’s worth at least some game time when we’re looking for a bit of creativity,.
17 September 2014 at 2:40 am #133500Waghorn wasn’t even on the bench,is he injured?
17 September 2014 at 3:55 am #133501There is one thing for certain, Riera should deffo start ahead of Delort [needs to sit and watch how the game is played in this country for a few weeks before getting a regular start]
The second change should be Tavernier in at right wing back. I’ve watched this lad in pre-season and again tonight when he came on, we looked a real threat down the right. Nothing against Perch, there may be a slot for him somewhere in the starting 11, but Tav deserves a run of games.
The approach play tonight was quite good a times, but on others was too slow, allowing a poor Huddersfield Team to pick us off when in the last third.
Yet another game that has passed us by without getting what we deserved, we surely must start getting the breaks in the box.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!17 September 2014 at 11:05 am #133502A natural proven striker in the box alongside Delort/ Rieara with Callum don’t wing. Now who have we who has a proven track record of scoring at all levels.Surely hidden away somewhere at Laticsville there is someone.
Grant Holt maybe????17 September 2014 at 1:49 pm #133503I haven’t seen anything of the game, but kept an eye on BBC website text last night.
60% possession away from home against a team below us and no goal(s).
We really do need to put a winning run together PDQ. 3 wins and it will all look so much better; 3 defeats and it doesn’t bear thinking about
We’ve brought in what we hope are good signings in the window. Another couple of games without a win (given the form this season, Brum aside and end of last season) and I fear DW’s firing finger will be getting twitchy.
We must be challenging the top 6 by the end of November, ready to launch a big assault on promotion. Otherwise it’s time for a change of manager.
There’s too much talent available to us for the league position we are now in.

I would imagine a conversation has taken place about where he expects the team to be by a certain point like he did with Jewell in the 2002-3 season.
Id be very surprised if the plug was pulled any time soon however we have started this season in a similar vein to last year so I would speculate December time will be the target month just like it was last year.
maybe it will all start to click soon but bear in mind the club is in a massive transitional period so some patience is needed by us all ….. For now19 September 2014 at 12:39 pm #133517I haven’t seen anything of the game, but kept an eye on BBC website text last night.

I didn’t want anyone to think I was trying to start some “Uwe Out” campaign, far from it.
Results (Birmingham aside)haven’t been good for quite a while. We have a squad which should be doing much better.
In the Premier League we expected (if not accepted) that we would lose a few games. In the Championship, every game is winnable.
Results do need to pick up quickly, otherwise DW’s patience wont last for ever
23 September 2014 at 3:17 pm #133581It depends on how quickly whelan & the fans for that matter expect to get back into the premier league – assuming of course, we do get back as we might never get back again, or, languish in this division for a few seasons. Clubs who are a lot bigger than ourselves ie forest, middlesborough, leeds to name but a few have been in the championship a while now & we could soon be amongst that group.

We are wigan. We run a tight budget, do not have the biggest of fanbases & even at championship level, punch above our weight. Why cant we just go back to enjoying the ride like we did a few seasons back.
