They have had since Saturday to sort out the surrounding areas and then to keep on top of them, but since i could only watch the first half due to having to go to work its worked out ok for me, at least i will be able to watch all of the rescheduled match :D

You are seriously blaming the club for this??

I was really looking forward to the match tonight, as I do every week, but come on fella, surely common sense has prevailed tonight!!

Have you left your house in the last 3 days?? You can’t honestly expect the club and council to prioritise the surrounding areas & car parks of the DW Stadium before the local road network?

    That bloody Whelan

Yes i have, with a spade and shoveled a fair bit of ice of our road and paths and you know what it took me a couple of minutes. At work last week i went round with a shovel and some bags of grit and in 10 minutes gritted the carpark. They have since Saturday to sort it out, and it was forecast its not like it just dropped out of the sky unexpected.

Look at the photos they have published on the main site, tell me if you can see any salt on the photos.

Blue Peter Badge is in the post fella. Well done!

Ps. The stadium & surrounding areas are slightly larger than a drive and a works car park.

Pps. Sorry for the pedantic reply, but I find it unbelievale that people expected the game to go ahead with the current conditions!!

    Just my opinion though ;)

Get a grip man, Whelan takes a lot of stick from us and rightly so, but to blame the club for the present incumbent weather conditions is a tad harsh

It would be upto the Whelan and the club the look after the stadium and the car parks or whoever manages it. It shouldn’t have anything to do with the council. I would have thought the same is for robin park and the retail area. It will be the management company.
Even the Loire Drive may not be looked after at public expense

          Think Scoffy has a point.

At the very least, they could of tried a bit harder.

Didn’t see much grit on those pictures, did you?

It annoyed me more than anything that they said the postponement was “despite best efforts”. Er, no.

The area stained brown with grit and sand would of suggested ‘best efforts’. Safety fella should have been straight on the blower to the community service people (those chain-gang efforts in orange hi-viz for petty criminals to put something back in the community) and should of said “send us a couple of teams of them down”. They’d possibly have sorted it, and would of been free as well.

And to top it all off, the club does have trailers for spreading sand, up at Christopher Park.

i don’t think anyone has blamed the club or Whelan for the weather. All they are saying is that the photo’s that the club released of the areas surrounding the ground did not seem to show any salt had been put down
The school I work at covers an area not much smaller than that of the JJB & paths round it (admittedly not the car parks & access roads) & I told the caretakers (2 of em) to get the salt down on all the grounds & pathways on Friday before they left coz every tom, dick & harry had seen the weather forecast. The snow & ice isn’t as bad here as it is in Wigan but they could have held a football match here come Monday night if they’d wanted!!
I’d also put my house on that there would have been no other club’s forced to call that game off on Monday night, including Bolton

The badge must be stuck in the snow

What i was saying that is with a bit of effort i think the game could have been played. I drove past the groung 30 mins before the announcement was made and you could see that no effort had been made to even clear the ice from in front of the turnstiles.

Looks like they are finally trying for the boxing day game

          At last

Oh and i dont have a drive

what a moaning get you are.
maybe you should of gone round the DW instead of your street and works car park

can someone please tell me where the snow was to be cleared from to make it all safe ?

yes around the tarmaced area closest to the ground we all agree then where else ?

so me coming from orrell i want all the roads from pem, down worlsey hall, and the car parks facing the cinema clear oh and in front of frankies so i can nip in for a pint, what good is that for people from beech hill/springfield area,so they want frog/woodhouse lane cleared, pagefield industrial estate(which is private by the way)then the best one yet the canal towpath, then theres the footbridge over the canal, then again maybe the ice ont cut would be thick enough to be able to skate across to the stadium, then those from shevvy or standish carparks near the soccerdome need to be clear,im not even going ito them that walk from wigan or come by car from that direction, then theres the ashton goose green lot-it goes on and on

the powers that be -the club-police-highways agency and council will have all talked and come to the only possible conclusion

take a look at the chaos all over today it just happened we were the first to be tested.

            #15925

All I’m saying is that the club said both they & the council had done “everything in their power” to get the go ahead to stage the game including gritting all the roads, footpaths etc.. yet those who have been down there said they saw little sign of that & that seemed to be backed up by the photos the club released
I’m assuming by what the club is now saying they are doing to get Saturday’s game on that “everything in their power” did not include a snow plough or the grit they are now putting down

To be I wasn’t going anyway so just missed out on a couple of hours in the pub but I just wish the club could have had the honesty to say “we didn’t grit the areas surrounding the ground coz we forgot/didn’t listen to the weather forecast/didn’t have any grit. Sorry” instead of appearing to lie (IMO) through their teeth

            #15929

Can’t win either way, can they Tyldesley? Had they spun that line they would have been slagged just as much, if not more.

It would have been interesting to see how many other games would have survived had there been a full programme that night. I reckon zero – FACT!

Oops, sorry – inapproriate use of “fact” ;)

              Oh I don’t know, Griff.

I was in Burnley at the weekend, and to be honest, they’d clearly gritted all the roads very, very, well, and they were basically clear.

Wigan, and Skem as well, seemed to be the lands the gritters forgot.

And just to show how lazy and switched off for Christmas the council are, they haven’t collected the bins. This will be great, with people having loads of rubbish over Christmas. Totally inept.
I can hear their excuse now that “We couldn’t get the bin lorry around the roads”. Yes they can. Buses are running on the roads, so I’m sure they can.

              Lazy, useless, gits.
