I dont think we have been bold or forward thinking enough with the mundane and predictable friendlies we have, and have had.

Looking around, I see other clubs playing against European sides, for example, Birmingham playing Benfica B, Rotherham playing Werder Bremen B, etc.

Those kind of fixtures, I am sure, will give you just as good a test, if not a better one, than playing Chester, Fylde, etc. What did we learn from beating Chester 7-1? Nothing at all.

They can also double as scouting missions, with anybody who looks the part being snapped up either as loan, or permanent. Again, as is the norm with our manager, I just see the easy route taken. Perhaps we have no intention of looking to recruit anybody from overseas. I think its very shortsighted. We were never going to recruit anyone from Chester City or Fylde. Perhaps Danny Rowe would have a slight chance, but apart from that, not good enough.

And by the way, I have seen that Franco Di Santo is available on a free. Still only 30, he may be worth a look. A bit of enigma, he was capable of quality on his day. But he isnt an old aquaintance of Cook or his staff, so I would say theres no chance.

I think the club have got it bang on. Play a couple of friendlies to test fitness then nearer to the start of the season play a couple of decent teams to work on fine tuning tactics, eg Everton, Burnley. We wouldn’t have gained anything playing a top club whilst building up our fitness levels Dave. We’ve lost a couple of players already to tweaks, going full out against a big side would have probably led to more.

        From Matlock to ManU
        What a journey!

I tell you what, John, after seeing the stats from todays Bradford V Liverpool friendly, I hold my hand up and say I WAS WRONG, and you were definitely right.

Theyve played 52 mins at valley parade and its 3 nil to a second string Liverpool who have had 78% possession. Apart from it being a sell out, you cant see it having much benefit to Gary Bowyer’s pre season preparations.

In hindsight, I see that yes, we have pretty much got it spot on really.

I just think £15 to watch a knock around is not the way to attract new fans.
              £5 in free to kids

                I agree with you there.

But I am not going to either due to being away on prior work commitments, but I wouldve baulked at £15 for either anyway. Just because it works out at more than my ST will per match…just doesnt make sense to me.

Well for fans who dont have season cards or fans who previously had them but dont nowadays £15 is a nice cheap option. I would pay to watch anyone latics face in any game at £15-00 rather than have to pay £28 or £30 for a league game. Still Latics playing. Hopefully a good run of home cup ties this season too.

The first 8 matchday prices are as follows-

                      Cardiff £25
                      Leeds £30
                      Barnsley £23
                      Charlton £23
                      Birmingham £20
                      Forest £25
                      Swansea £25
                      Brentford £23

Thats £194 for 8 matches (£24 per match average)

Anyone planning to go to the first 8 matches would only need to spend another £85 and they would get the next 15 matches for free!!!

Or you could fork out £279 up front, and every game would cost just £12.13, a saving of £97 on the first 8 games alone.
