Dave Whelan seems to be engineering the relegation of Wigan Athletic. How he can possibly hope to compete with the money being made available in the Premiership (Soon to be Championship if we dont strengthen) is beyond me. He needs to cut his losses and leave the club. I just want to cry when I think of what has happened, the players that have left, the players brought in and the possibilites of what we could have achieved. The club are becoming the laughing stock of the Football League. The players arent good enough, home and away attendances are dwindling, the Owner doesnt care, the manager may as well not be there with the funds being made available to him. Martinez is a legend in the Borough of Wigan and one of the best players to ever play for the club, and yes. he genuinly loves the club, but the Premiership is not the place for him to cut his teeth. He is not the man for the job as was proved by Paul Ince at Blackburn last season. In time maybe he will be, I hope he is, but not now. We need a manager with Premiership Experience. Martinez was Whelans cop out to the fans. He knew he couldnt lose because Martinez was a fans choice.
The gap between the Premiership and the Championship is astronomic in terms of money and the level of football and frankly if Whelan allows us to be relegated, we have instantly lost 5 years, millions of pounds and no doubt, at least 5000 fans.31 August 2009 at 8:38 pm #7416Latics will find their own level soon and it’s not in the prem.
31 August 2009 at 9:57 pm #7433It is sad to say, but unless Wigan get their act together they wil end up in the Championship, and as I see it they will find it very difficult to get back into the Premier League. Why waste the opportunity when you have got it? We are a Premier League Club and let us do all that we can to survive. It looks as if things are going to be difficult, at present we are just not good enough, something is wrong somewhere. The problem needs to be addressed. Good players are just not performing. Why? Crowds are bad, the club needs to ask why. I work hard to pay for my season ticket and away match tickets and when I see the quality of football that I have seen this sesaon it is obvious why Latics crowds are poor. You can’t blame the fans who walked off at Blackpool for doing so. The last thing I wasnt is relegation, I am Latics through and through, I have Latics blood in my veins, and if we are relegated I will still be there. Yes, we are probably the worst supported team in the Premier League and Wigan Athletic need to act now and encourage as many as possible to come along for the next match and cheer the lads on to the win that will kick start the season. Lets not be known as woeful Wigan.
