I have been a regular visitor to this board for years now, and often feel the urge to post when I see some of the idiotic comments made by some.
After watching todays game there is no doubt we were second best on everything bar falling on our arse. The second half performance from Southampton today was nothing short of intense, and we couldnt handle it, very much similar to what we did to Stoke at their place.
We are now firmly in a battle and I always hold up hope for us, but lately I have been struggling to see how (should we stay up) we move to the next stage as a club. Yes, every fan and club wants to play attractive football, but in complete honesty, how many times under Martinez has that happened? I still think Martinez is the man to move our club forward, but as every game passes us by, it becomes more and more difficult to see the light.
So seeing as most on here are the next England manager, what do we do?

3 February 2013 at 1:07 am #102416Thanks, used post years ago when I worked at Goose Green but havent been on for a long while. I have to disagree with RM having not moved us along. The change in transfer policy has been something of a mix/match but all in all I would consider that to be one of RM’s strongest positives, long gone (a few exempt of course) are the days of taking a punt on the likes of agahowa and marlon king to name a few. We have a relatively young squad, that can, and has proved itself capable.
IMO the problem with the club at the moment seems to fall with Whelan, as said above and proven with this transfer window (believe the reports if you will) that players were within our grasp should we match the value. I;m not saying be held for randsom on every occasion, but when we know were in competition with other PL clubs, why are we holding out over 1 Million? I dread to think what would of happened if the likes of Valencia cost a touch more than we paid.

I understand what you are saying about a young sqaud BUT look at dik santo nearly 100 apperances and approx 20 goals which at this level isnt good enough
3 February 2013 at 2:22 am #102425Have we had a decent striker or set of strikers since being in the PL? I am not trying to avoid the point you are making, but i think to pin point one player for an entire system could be unjust (not saying you are, i’m being general). I come back to the point that somewhere along the line Whelan needs to put the money in when the player can make the difference. Teams around us are willing to spend beyond the 5million mark on players and we are sitting in their dust while they run away with safety. Like yourself Ace, my top priority should we survive is a striker, if I were in the team I think at this point I’d be deflated knowing pretty much everything comes to nothing.
