Some stats as to why we will struggle this season if we don’t address it before the transfer window shuts:-

The average age of the squad is 23.4 years old, we have one of the youngest squads in all 4 divisions.

We have 21 players aged 24 or under, only 7 players are over the age of 24,

Nearly half of our registered 28 man squad are aged 21 or under,

Only 10 players out of the squad have contracts beyond the season ending 2025 so 18 can leave or go back to parent club come the end of this season,

We only have 2 listed full international players . In years gone by we’ve always struggled to play on international weeks, not now,

I thought that once the older players on top brass had left this summer we’d replace by signing players some robust type players on less thus lowering the wage bill so over the next few years we can start to build and knit a side together
      But oh no

      What’s actually happening is,

We’ve released every top earner and replaced them with very young lads on loan and signing more young lads with little or no experience.

I fully understand the trouble we were and no doubt still in but like politicians, you can’t start blaming the black hole deficit on the last lot when you were fully aware of the debt and situation when you took over.

Yes Danson has saved us thank you, yes there’s debt we know but I’m sure his accountants explained all this to him before he took over.

Based on the player stats I’ve pointed out there is no rebuild job going on, no plan it’s a hand to mouth survival , no long term plan, there is little or no experience in our squad in a League were a few older heads is a must even Maloney’s said this last season.

I’ve watched a fair few of Maloney’s interviews after the pre season games and you don’t have to work for MI5 to read his body language. You can clearly see he wants to scream out from the roof tops he needs backing in the transfer market. He’s dying to say I’m not happy with the squad I need experience and some money Mr Danson.

We cannot build a squad when between 15-18 players leave every year that’s absolutely madness utter crazy madness.

There’s no way on this planet Maloney targeted some of these young lads I mean how’s that possible? a fair few hadn’t even played a game. Someone’s drawn a list up of players and he’s been told you choose either him him & him but that’s it.

Up front we have nothing, Hugill and Stones will not get the goals not with what’s behind them. Either player would have to perform an absolute miracle to even get close to double figures.

The manager will have no doubt pin pointed one or two players up Scotland (his patch) and he’s been knocked back due to fees and wages so he’s had to settle for young lads with no experience.

Is this the owner fingers crossed hoping that one of these young lads brought in might just blossom he’s hoping in a year or two he’ll get £2-£3 million for him ?.

I don’t know but what I do know is, he’ll need an experience player showing him how to blossom something we don’t have.

I’m positive Maloney’s been told that the club cannot afford his targets and just to make do and make it happen similar to a builder “Don’t blame your tools pal”.

Me?, the managers not been backed that’s clear as day. Any possible funds from the possible sale of Hughes will go into the running of the club. The lack of experience to help these young lads will be our undoing.

      Controversial remark coming:-

Why when there’s little or no money for the first team squad we decide to suddenly start a women’s side is beyond me. Will money from Hughes’s eventual departure be marked down to aid the cost of setting up and running of a women’s football side ?

Yes start one by all means but I personally feel the clubs timing is way way off.Theres a time and a place and right now were trying to sort years of mess out so all our efforts and every spare penny should go into that.

Tonnes of lower league clubs up and down the country do not have one because it’s a financial drain on the clubs funds and resources.

If Maloney’s not backed now and Jan based on yesterday and looking at the depth and experience of the squad staying up will be a success.

It’s the weakest squad since admin

Good post as always CW , cannot disagree with any of that.
This squad and pre season puts me in mind of season 1992- 93.
We all know how that ended and started a massive fall that was only rescued by DW when the club was on its arse.
Without a bit of investment in the team we could well end up where he found us almost 30 years to the day.

We could have the best striker No 9 in the country and the penny would still not drop !
We have to pass to him in good positions.
Maybe our No 9 needs a flashing beacon on his head

I feel for Maloney but he doesn’t help himself with this belt n braces football based solely on having more possession therefore more pointless passing.

Players sh*t scared at going at the opposition (bar Jones) they prefer to play every pass safe house just so they don’t give it away.

Are forwards are literally starved to death then suddenly they’ll be asked to take on 2-3 defenders. I lost count the times Rankine and Adeeko got the ball one man to beat and decided to pass.

At some point you have to commit, take a man on,a quick one/two going forward. This build up play retaining possession stinks to the high hills and it certainly doesn’t suit us we need to be far braver on the ball.

At the end of last season Maloney basically said, I’ve took the reigns off just go for it and it was like a whole new team. Going forward at pace, quick one twos players in the box it was champagne football but were back down the snake again.

Yes Maloney didn’t get his targets I’m sure of that but he needs to let the players go into games being brave and creative, take chances rather than acting like a timid dog with it’s tail between it’s legs by keeping hold of the ball for as long as we can.

Saturday against Charlton not one shot on goal with 58% possession and we never got caught offside that’s because we never got it through to Hugill or Stones.

Is it Maloney or the players ?, we could change Maloney but we can’t change all 28 players. Too much Martinez has rubbed off on him far too much

He had a good season when he was at Morecambe scoring 10 so he has it in his locker and he should be coming of age now he’s coming up for 23.

It’s anyone’s guess how he’ll do under Maloney and his tactics. Mind you I’d say the same thing if we signed Haaland with Maloney

All the transfer rumours shows what a merry-go-round it is. Humphreys now supposedly close to a Barnsley deal and Martial Godo linked with loan to Blackburn. Hoping we manage to get 2 experienced ones in midfield and forward……

Ah yes, straight from the Knee injury clinic in May to the rehabilitation clinic at the Brick Community Stadium.

Thrilling, isn’t it :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Tyrese Francois still at last another month away and Asamoah “will need time to bed into the club”. Ffs !!…What a track record we have signing already crocked players. “Thelo,Matt Smith and Dion were dead on their feet at Birmingham ” …..time to sort the fitness coaches out cos we haven’t got back ups..certainly in the middle…..christ season only just started and they’re knackered…….so is that why he continually makes en-mass substitutions?..Fitness levels ?…Have they got Nick Powell syndrome? 65 mins per game….Just makes our transfer window look what it was……b.o.g.o.f…….

I’ve always said, the first few games players are shagged saying “Not match fix yet”
Then some players get injured pushing too hard too early. Then those who weren’t “Match fit” string a few games together they become tired/over played

Is there ever a time when players are fit to go feel good match fit ??. This isn’t the first time we’ve brought players in who’ve spent most of their summer sunning it with a beer and a BigMac.

Wait till November December they’ll be dropping like flies
