Pundits raving about Spain…..Ffs yes they deserved to win but it’s been a piss poor tournament. No one stood out as a challenge to them. Square heads,France,Italy etc were all dog shit. We over achieved…..in the preferred half of the draw it was probably expected to reach semi’s as a minimum achievement. But for all the tv know alls jizzing their slacks about Spain with 10 mins to go we were still in it …..here is my feeling cheated emotion…..We could all see Kane was wank and carrying fitness issues throughout the tournament. He touched ball 3 times in 1st half..booked…at this level you can’t risk unfit players.Foden proved what I’ve always believed that hes’nowhere near the world class player people allude too….he was bang average.Gordon,Palmer, Watkins,Wharton, should have started or utilised earlier…..particularly Gordon. Bellingham apart from a few minutes here and there looked jaded and should have been switched back into the middle or hooked. Netherlands/Spain …subs made huge impact…we looked far more mobile than previous 65 mins…..but Foden,Kane,Bellingham start irrespective of form or fitness whilst the hungry ,ambitious England future stars sit on their hands…….I believe had Southgate had bigger gonads we could be celebrating this morning rather than to use Jim Bowens famous phrase…”look what you could’ve won” !!!!

For me Kane has been one selfish tw@t. He’s played this tournament carrying a back injury he got at the end of the season.
This was clear to see the lack of mobility, 13 touches in 7 matches and subbed 5 times. Southgate like Martinez with Ronaldo didn’t have the bottle to drop him.
Then there’s Bellingham, his arm waving kicking the bottle box and trying to do the job of 4 instead of putting his faith in his fellow teammates sends our all the wrong messages. We saw very very brief moments of magic but he looked shagged out.
Against the Dutch he said straight after the game “Thank God for that, I didn’t have another 30 minutes in me”

Rice, for a guy who cost the earth he cannot pass forward only sideways and back. Probably the weak link for me offering absolutely nothing and cost us a goal when he was brushed aside like an u12’s player.

Wharton is a far better player than Rice. Rice was quick to point out in an interview that Wharton’s young and it’s his 1st tournament so its a learning curve.
Fantastic good old English apprenticeship bollox were you, “LOOK N LEARN YOUNG MAN” comes to mind. If Yamal and Williams were English they’d still be in the Chelsea reserves.

Walker, say no more, on the whole he’s been p!ss poor average and cost us a goal in the Final. I think it’s time he hung up the old international boots along with Kane Trippier Shaw and don’t be shocked if Pep doesn’t give him as many minutes.
Rooney once said we need to build a side around our best player i.e. Foden but this lad is the new Scholes, shoehorned in for the sake of it.
Then the manager, absolutely useless. Again we were on the highly favourable side and the first decent side we faced we were simply outclassed.
        So
Southgate needs to go and go fast. The vast majority of the players have known nothing else bar Southgate and 4 tournaments is enough. Tactically he’s the worse England manager I’ve ever seen.

Had we had of started Palmer Watkins Toney Wharton And for me Gordon in certain games throughout the tournament I think we would have lifted the trophy for sure. We winged it with last minute goals and coming from behind but there’s only so many times you can push your luck before it runs out and it did.

It’s nothing to do with experience or age it’s all about a players ability never forget 17 year old Owen skipping through the Argie defence no age no experience so Declan Rice needs to shut the fook up and stop trying to protect his own position

So it’s the managers fault even though our star players massively underperformed 🤷‍♂️

Please give us your wisdom on who gets the job in his place?

Yes it is the managers fault. In the final Watkins came on and we started to get on top.
On comes Palmer and we’re back in it. Now remember this bit after the subs were made we were clearly on top that was till we scored.
            Then what did we do?,
We sat back, now you cannot tell me or convince me that Southgate didn’t instruct the players to do that.

We were clearly happier to take it to extra time were Spain weren’t and that’s the difference between De La Fuente and Southgate, 1 coach wanting to win it and the other not wanting to lose it.

Palmer for me was one of the best players out there for us and he never started a game. Even his team m8 Cucurella said he was glad to see him not start as he’s so unpredictable but that’s definitely not Southgates style.

Harry Kane should have been dropped and again the manager was at fault. He touched the ball once in the box in the final.

Palmer should have started and Gordons pace and his directness should have been put to use. Is it the players fault if the manager doesn’t use them or tells them to drop back incase Spain counter attack which is what he said after the game, he was worried about Spain’s counter at a time when we had them on the ropes.

Let’s face it for 10 – 15 minutes we had Spain by the balls, Southgate decided on another Italy rather than go for the kill and Spain manager saw this and capitalised on our negativity.

Four tournaments is enough for England the vast majority of the players have only known Southgate and it’s time for a change.

So who’s the favourites to take over if he leaves? Potter and Lee Carsley, wow ! that’s got to be a wind up. I would have lined up Mourinho before he went Turkey a serial winner or Klopp but it’s looking like Eddie Howe.

If Southgate remains it will an absolute disaster beyond belief. Tactically hes useless and his loyalty to senior players cost us dearly. Kanes greed for a medal and Southgates loyalty to an unfit Kane when he was clearly not fit cost us the trophy.

At the end of the day, he had the players there but he chose to stick by players not playing well. Bellingham and Rice bar the odd fleeting moments stunk the place out throughout the tournament and he stuck with them
The buck stops with the manager who has little faith in off the cuff style players.
If Gascoigne was under Southgate he wouldn’t even have got took a bit like Grealish

That’s because he has had the best squad of players by a country mile. Any decent manager would have won back to back Euros playing the traditional English way. :negative:

                    Best squad of players? Really?

                    Scholes Lampard Gerrard Beckham

                    Terry Ferdinand Campbell

                    Owen Shearer Rooney

To name but a few of the last 20 years who never got to a final and often didn’t make it past the quarters

Took over a team that had just gone out to Iceland and had the farce of having Big Sam as manager for one game.

You’ve all got your way. Let’s watch the shit show that follows

“We won more knockout games under him”

Fantastic stat lets be proud hey,

and how many times did we play a FIFA top ten ranked side in those “knockout games”? infact in any game under him ?

And out of those games, how many did we win ?
And how many trophies did we win ?

So you had a chuckle at me saying Mourinho I am very interested in your choices, enlighten us all please.
I’ll explain why I thought Mourinho would have been good:-

Mourinho has won trophies at the highest club level in 4 different countries. In his time he has handled some of the biggest clubs and players on the planet he’s a serial winner. He knows how to get teams over the winning line. The way he overcame Barcelona in Inter Milans CL win was astonishing.
At the highest level it’s about the manager not the players, players need clear instruction and belief.

Lippi ? He dropped the golden boy Del Piero in the World Cup and was absolutely ruined by the press called every name under the sun
Italy went on to win it.He knew he had to sacrifice him to win it. Southgate had to drop Kane, Martinez had to drop Ronaldo both didn’t and didn’t win it.

Quote from Lippi: “The best players don’t always make the best teams”
Alf Ramsey: replaces Greaves with Hurst the rest is history.

Fergie, built 5 different winning Prem sides while in charge of Utd getting rid of a whole host of world class players in their prime Keane Stam Beckham etc.

My point to all those points is, Southgate had to make changes big calls and he didn’t have the guts to drop his captain when he was clearly struggling.
The great managers past and present make those decisions and do not care about any individual, they do it for the team. And the true greats get it right more times than wrong.

Southgate won 2 league cups and an old first division as a player but more importantly as a manager nothing. His loyalty and fear to drop senior players cost us dearly both Kane and Walker failed us in the Final along with Southgates tactics after we scored.

We need a manger with experience in handling big ego’s and isn’t afraid in making controversial career defining calls both tactically and isn’t scared to make huge player calls.
Looking at the current crop, Carsley doesn’t fit even Howe falls short I’d say there’s 4 or 5 and none are English.
I personally think the F.A. will go with Howe and try and replicate 96 and Venables were he didn’t have to qualify due to it been held at home in 2028.
Is he the right man? I’d say no tbh

Let’s here your choices enlighten me it should be interesting as you clearly rate Southgate with your knockout games stat

Same old bullshit quote “How many decent sides did he beat”

From World Cup 90 until Southgate took over we won a huge 2 knockout games inside 90 minutes against the mighty Ecuador and Denmark. 2 games over a period that included 7 World Cups and 7 Euros.

Over that period we failed to beat the likes of Nigeria, Algeria, USA, Costa Rica, Romania and Iceland.

So over 14 major tournaments, the likes of Capello, Sven, Hoddle, Robson and McLaren also never beat a so called major nation in a knock out game and certainly never made a final.

Spain are better than us. They are technically better than us by a country mile. They were also better than France, Germany and Italy so no shame in losing that final.

I am sure Southgate will have regrets about the Italy final but then I’m sure City have regrets about the 2013 FA Cup Final, 2014 Semi Final and 2018 5th Round. That is football.

I don’t believe there is a good candidate to take over from Southgate. He shouldn’t have been hounded out like he has been

It will probably be Carsley or Potter so good luck with that

I’d sooner have Brian Potter from Phoenix Nights.
The difference between Spain and us wasn’t technical ability or Spain having better players they simply played as a team with a manager who made it clear how he wanted to play.
                          Southgate?
It was all about “Let’s not lose this”
The inclusion of Trent in middle at the tournament was clear this guy was totally clueless.
In the Euros we won 2 games out the 7 in normal time Spain won 6 out of 7 in normal time.
The difference was Spain wanted to win we want to get through hook or crook and if it required pens every game then so be it.
                          But,
If you go down that road and dont rotate players you will fail. We’d too many players tired, fatigued and lots of players who got little or no minutes.

Southgate was to blame he lost us 3 trophies

Isn’t it strange that going back 30 years plus for England we’ve so called the best players squad at international level but we never won anything

For me our players are not as good as we would like to think. Our so called World class players win everything at club level this is because thier integrated with better foreign players.
Once we put them all together and there’s no foreign element we are dog shit.
There’s no better example the other week in the Euros Final and then the golden period Beckham Scholes Lampard Gerard Rio the list goes on and on.
Once our best English players are mixed in with foreign players their world beaters (Foden been one) but as soon as there all put together at international level playing together for England their true ability shines through or the lack of it

Their v.g. players but without the influx of the better overseas players at club level they are nothing more than average
