Has an easy act to follow if you ask me. He doesn’t have to win many games I’m positive his win percentage will be better than 26% in fact I’d put money on it. All he needs to do is just talk about building the club from the bottom up and the occasional mention of an academy. That will be enough to please the CL football scholars who post on here. So IMO must be an improvement on Bottom 3 Bob so lets get behind the guy and see our beloved team win some football matches.
15 June 2013 at 8:03 am #116229Bob lost sight of the fact that in football it is a good idea to put the white leather thing in the net rather than pass it accross defence, he seemed happy if our possesion percentage was superior to the oppositions, even though we’d just lost 2-0 ??? Good luck Owen Coyle .
15 June 2013 at 2:19 pm #116243Wembley appearances Coyle lost 5-0 with notlob Bobby Fa cup winners 2013 I thank you
15 June 2013 at 2:24 pm #116246There’s no point in comparing the two. They’re different managers in very different circumstances.
And I don’t expect Wigan to cruise through the Championship. There are some strong teams with wealthy owners here too.

15 June 2013 at 5:44 pm #116261cant remember any of coyles teams getting dicked 9-1
15 June 2013 at 6:15 pm #116262It’s a pointless discussion.
But if you’re looking forward to the new season, good!
15 June 2013 at 7:21 pm #116269cant remember any of coyles teams getting dicked 9-1Whelan did stick up for Bobby?lets not forget when he came out with if bobby goes i go.other clubs wud have got shut at early stages.it can be in Owen we trust. ;)
15 June 2013 at 9:22 pm #116278cant remember any of coyles teams getting dicked 9-1Despite that, Wigan finished this season with a better goal difference than Bolton last season. So Bolton must have let some goals in somewhere.
Coyle 2011/12 18 Bolton Wanderers (R) 38 10 6 22 46 77 −31 36
Martinez 2012/13 18 Wigan Athletic (R) 38 9 9 20 47 73 –26 36Oh – and Martinez won the Cup too.
Stop whingeing about Roberto. He’s gone – Owen is here now. Let’s move on.

What are you on about? 1) i am not whingeing about bobby,2)Comparisons are being drawn between bob and coyle,i am puting a posative spin on the coyle appointment. And yeah he did win the cup BUT he also got us relegated,so please dont keep wheeling he won the cup out.I was one of bobs biggest supporters but i did have my moments,i will be forever greatfull to him for the f.a cup win.
So you stop whinging (as you put it) about coyle and his time at bolton15 June 2013 at 10:32 pm #116284i am puting a posative spin on the coyle appointment. But Martinez actually comes out on top in your comparisons.
Coyle’s team isn’t likely to be organised any better defensively than Martinez’ was.
Coyle, like Martinez, saw his team relegated from the Premier League. And, like it or not, Martinez did win the Cup.
Or is that what you mean by positive spin – suggestions that aren’t true.
Can’t you find a way of praising Coyle without, rightly or wrongly, knocking Martinez?

16 June 2013 at 1:06 am #116292Were did i COMPARE MARTINEZ WITH COYLE, Read my 1st post “cant remember any of coyles teams getting dicked 9-1”My apologies, aceface. You didn’t mention Martinez at all.
9-1 is an uncommon score. Foolishly, I took it as a reference to the 9-1 defeat suffered by Martinez’ team against Spurs at White Hart Lane on 22 November 2009.
I thought that you were implying that Coyle at Bolton had a better defensive record than Martinez at Wigan, something we know is not true;
Coyle 2011/12 18 Bolton Wanderers (R) 38 10 6 22 46 77 Goal difference −31 36
Martinez 2012/13 18 Wigan Athletic (R) 38 9 9 20 47 73 Goal difference –26 36You obviously had a completely different message in mind. Would you like to tell us what it was?

Like i said trying put a posative spin on coyle taking over,he isnt my 1st choice and there is a lot of negativity, so the 9-1 tonking we got of spurs and the spanking we go of chelski and any other you can think of,made us a laughing stock, SO can you recall any tonking of that extent that any teams coyle as managed16 June 2013 at 12:22 pm #116307Like i said trying put a posative spin on coyle taking over,he isnt my 1st choice and there is a lot of negativity, so the 9-1 tonking we got of spurs and the spanking we go of chelski and any other you can think of,made us a laughing stock, SO can you recall any tonking of that extent that any teams coyle as managedSo, despite what you said, you are comparing Coyle with Martinez after all! These comparisons are ridiculous.
Anyway, it’s not the size of the defeats that matters, it’s the number of them. But, since you keep on about it, Coyle’s teams have shipped plenty of goals in recent seasons.
You’ll remember that Coyle left a sinking ship at Burnley, that Bolton were relegated under him, and that he was sacked the next season because of poor results in the Championship.
2009/10 Burnley lost 5-0 at Tottenham and 5-3 at West Ham. Coyle abandoned Burnley before the big home defeat, 6-1 to Manchester City, but I’d say it was still his team.
2009/10 Bolton lost 4-0 at home to Manchester United.
2010/11 Bolton lost 4-0 at home to Chelsea.
2010/11 FA Cup semifinal Bolton lost 5-0 to Stoke.
2011/12 Bolton lost 5-0 at home to Manchester United and 5-1 at home to Manchester City. -
