Good luck to him. Scored the goal that got us promoted out of the bottom division and set the ball rolling.

And the rest as they say is history :happy-partydance: :happy-partydance: :happy-partydance:

          Midweek home game, against Colchester.

He scored a header at the Shevvy end.

Are you sure? I thought it was the Town End

Will have to dig out the DVD and watch the season highlights again.

Plenty of Goals, Fights and Celebrations :D

I was watching from the St Andrews and to my memory, it was to my right hand side. Colchester had a defender, a bald fella called Peter Cawley, and a few days prior to the game, he’d been quoted as calling Wigan a ‘dustbin’ of a place. So, he came in for some stick.

It was definitley the Shevvy End coz I can remember it clear as day.
I can also remember where I stood on the St Andrew’s side & that was towards the Shevvy End & I was one of those who moved position depending on which goal we were attacking

I also remember shouting myself hoarse & barely being able to speak the next day at a job interview. Which needless to say I didn’t get – meaning my dole money had to continue funding the remaining few Latics games

I used to stand right on halfway, so we didn’t move at half time.

I was at college/on the dole as well, in those days. in fact, probably on the dole when that game was played. I watched a full season on those unemployed concession cards they used to hand out from the ticket office….and yes, it would have been 1996-97 season! I left college in 1996 and couldn’t get a job for love nor money for a while. Spent most of my time hanging around Edge Hill University in Ormskirk, with my mates who had gone there. Basically I was there as much as them, but didn’t go!
The poontang on offer :orcs-buttshake: , plus the student ba :obscene-drinkingcheers: r, and Stu Allen’s disco nights, :character-beavisbutthead: made it more than worthwhile. How I afforded it, I don’t know. (Though I don’t think it was even £1.50 a pint then) :obscene-drinkingdrunk:

                Easy days, them, ‘kin ell!

Am I right to think (or has time clouded my memory again) that McGibbon was the last person to score a league goal on Springfield Park?

Remember the night well but I was 200 miles away in tidworth with only 3 days left to serve in the army. Celebrated well that night then also the day after.
