Am trying to make sense of how things might run on Sunday and what games/scores we’d need to track. I saw the other thread on this and frankly it nearly made my head explode.
The truly simplest way of looking at it (and incidentally, the scenario with most probability) is that Brum and Pool both lose and we pick up at least a point.
However, I’ve think boiled it down to these 3 scenarios, none of which really involve having to follow the Wolves v Blackburn game…here goes:
1. If we lose, we will stay up on 39 points if we lose by just 1 goal and Blackpool and Birmingham both lose by at least 3 or 4 goals respectively
2. If we draw, we will stay up on 40 points if Blackpool and Birmingham both lose.
3. If we win, we will stay up on 42 points if just one of either Blackpool or Birmingham fail to win.
There are of course many more convoluted options involving all 4 teams and multiple score lines (involving narrow wins and thrashes) but only thinking about the 3 above should just about keep most folk sane.
Feel free to correct me if any of this is wrong!

What will happen will happen, still be bricking it tho, can’t help it!19 May 2011 at 8:23 pm #661501. If we lose, we will stay up on 39 points if we lose by just 1 goal and Blackpool and Birmingham both lose by at least 3 or 4 goals respectively
Feel free to correct me if any of this is wrong! We have scored 3 more goals than Birmingham so we will stay up if we lose by 1 and Birmingham and Blackpool both lose by 3 unless Birmingham score 3 more we do on Saturday (and still lose by 3).
There is a scenario where we end up in a dead-heat (same goal difference, same goals) with Birmingham and have to play a best-of-3 game of stone, paper, scissors for who stays up.19 May 2011 at 10:30 pm #66157l  ets just go out and win

20 May 2011 at 1:11 am #66167Does scissors not over-ride head-to-head results.
I suspect the outcome will be chosen by a Premier League panel chaired by Trevor Brooking.

20 May 2011 at 1:01 pm #66181Why is no one talking about the significance of the Wolves/Blackburn game? Both teams can’t win (Not even Dame Brooking can fix that one) & a draw will give them both 41pts. Therefore either or both will be dragged into the mire IF Wigan, Birmingham AND Blackpool win. :confusion-seeingstars: :confusion-seeingstars:
Obviously we need Carol Vordermon AND Stephen Hawking to work out ALL the possible permutations  :lol:20 May 2011 at 1:03 pm #66182Why is no one talking about the significance of the Wolves/Blackburn game? 20 May 2011 at 1:09 pm #66183Any other season I would have agreed with you but this season…….Anything’s possible.
20 May 2011 at 1:30 pm #66184You’re right, but I just can’t, can’t see Blackpool getting anything at OT.
Birmingham might get something at Tottenham but i don’t see Blackburn getting a win at Wolves.
A win should see us right and a draw might just about be enough.
20 May 2011 at 3:38 pm #66196To be honest I dont give a toss about what the others do as long as we stay up. :D
21 May 2011 at 1:33 pm #66231From BBC website:
WIGAN WILL STAY UP IF…
They win and Blackburn draw with Wolves
They win and better Blackpool and Birmingham’s results by a margin of two or more goals
They draw and Blackpool and Birmingham both lose
They draw, either Blackpool or Birmingham lose, and Wolves lose by four or more goals
They lose, while Blackpool and Birmingham both lose by goal margins two greater than Wigan21 May 2011 at 1:45 pm #66233I wouldnt back against birmingham winning…here me out
Spurs are in the europa league no matter what through the fair play league (unless they get a few reds tomorow). now if they finish 5th then the fair play award goes to their london rivals fulham. would spurs really want this?
Who knows!? thats why we love football :)
