      Certainly for home games.

Wolves will almost certainly be relegation battlers this season and they have exposed in our first home game for everyone to see that if you tightly mark our midfield we are easily beaten.

I know Roberto is using the old tired players card, but we should have enough of a squad to deal with that if we want to push on, especially so early in the season.

We need a squad capable of playing 4 4 2 at home imho and we haven’t. We are crying out for a big centre forward in our ranks to hold the ball up front more….I know they don’t come cheap but neither does ending up in the championship.

Lets hope Whelan/Roberto with the benefit of hindsight after last nights debacle see this and do something about it. 13 days and counting.

      Up the Tics.

I reckon Bob already knows where the problem lies , hence the imminent signing of a new , more attack minded midfielder. You can’t play two defensive midfielders , in our style of play , in home games.

We need midfielders who will be looking to take the ball off Titus & Scharner as soon as they get it , therefore saving us the agony of watching the two centre backs struggle like they did last night. Or maybe we need centre halves who are more comfortable on the ball. Amaya maybe ?? It pains me to say this but I also reckon we really missed Catt last night.

Wolves scoring so early last night meant we needed some urgency to our play , but with the painfully slow build up via TB & PS we just didn’t get it.

Against Utd unless Amaya comes in I really hope we do revert to plan B , otherwise I can see Titus returning to the nervous wreck that Newcastle created.

I was relatively impressed with Scotland when he came on, and I think he could work well with Rodallega, as in my opinion, Hugo’s too light weight for the lone striker role. We definitely do need another lad up front though.

The weak link for me in the system that Martinez is trying to play is Brown. You can’t play a passing game with a central midfielder who can’t pass. Thomas didn’t have a good game, but at least he looks comfortable on the ball. Granted, Brown is in there to break-up play, but he needs to be able to do something with the ball when he gets it.

Last night the central defensive midfielders should have been making themselves available when we were are in possession and so create a link between defence and midfield. They didn’t, and that’s why the ball went across the back four until it was clear there was nobody free, and hoof, up the field it went. All they need to do it collect from Bramble et al, and link up the the more creative Gomez or the wide players.

We need a Micheal Carrick for the system to work properly. Is there an Aldi version of Carrick that we could get on the cheap from somewhere?

I agree with you, but I can’t see Amaya coming in against United. Does anybody actually know what the guy is like?

The major problem was the reliance on the centre-halves to start the moves off. I’ve said elsewhere that the midfield was too ‘rigid’. I mean, a straight line, rather than having someone ‘sitting in’. Did we miss Cattermole? I don’t know, maybe. Either Brown or Thomas could have picked up off the defenders and done the job. Thomas did it well at Preston. Also, we didn’t get enough balls out to N’Zogbia.

But credit to Wolves who harried us all night. They earned their win.

Scotland played well – he looks more Mido than Heskey, always looks to take the ball down rather than flick it on but for a big lad he is able to turn on it and make things happen. There just didn’t seem to be an outlet last night and the likes of Gomez and Rodders just ended up going deeper and deeper to get the ball
