When I saw the team yesterday I really fancied us but that was probably as bad as it can get. With 3 players of the supposed quality of Maloney, Mcmanaman and Mclean supporting Fortune, and a solid, experienced midfield due of Watson and McCann, on paper there should be goals in that team.

The reality however is somewhat different.

Everyone clammers for 4-4-2 and its probably worth a go and everyone will have different opinions of who the two should be.

Its not just the formation though its the style as well that has to change. We need to start from scratch in my opinion, we need a team of hard of workers now, not the so called superstars and lets scrap for a win, grind out results, nothing pretty, hard graft and that probably means the likes of Cowie, Kvist, Boyce, Figs, Waghorn and Ezpinoza.

Two incidents from the game summed it up for me, the ball got cleared from our corner, Perch picked it up on half way, waited to deliver and 4 of our men were stood offside, they could see it was coming back in but showed no effort to move the 5 yards needed to be back on side.

Also McClean was stood on the left wing flapping his arms, shaking his head, swearing, flapping his arms, looking straight across the line waiting for a pass, stood and I’m not exaggerating at least 5 yards offside. How clever is he?

I don’t think we’ve even resorted to plan a yet.

Waghorn when fit and give 2 lads a chance at a partnership up front.

Before a ball was kicked me and a lad I know had already sorted out the problem with that team yesterday was, the plan to get our no doubt decent midfielders up to support fortune leaving gaps in behind us. The defence was a shambles, never in the memory of man is Figueroa a central defender and to pair him with the already flaky Barnett was a nightmare waiting to happen. Delort scored 3 in 2 reserves games alongside Riera, Malky watched and said the reserve lads would play their way into the team. Shame on that team selection yesterday.

When Fortune went off at 1-0 down we were playing 4-6-0 WTF. At this rate if Malky was the answer I don’t know what the question was.

Griff joked 4 weeks ago, what if the new manager played 1 up front? He’d piss himself. We’ll his keks must be very wet.

I honestly think I could have done better picking a team to get us a result yesterday, in fact I think Shaun Wane could have.

Has Malky brought his own backroom staff with him?

The players we have on the field should be able to get wins. We look at the starting eleven – it looks fine – but as soon as they cross that line they go to pieces. Under three managers now they have done that.

So what’s the common factor over that time? The backroom staff?

I don’t know, but maybe managers are listening too much in the early days to the old hands behind the scene?

MALKY Mackay admitted some of his misfiring Wigan Athletic players are ‘playing for their futures’ after Saturday’s 1-0 home reversal to Norwich.

The misery surrounding the DW Stadium continued with a dismal defeat to an out-of-form Canaries outfit, who hardly had to get out of first gear to pick up only their second win in 11 matches.

Jonny Howson’s goal after just five minutes means Latics have now won only once in their last 15 outings and are three points adrift of safety in the Championship.

“There’s 10 players out of contract at the end of the season so they’re definitely playing for their futures,” Mackay told the Evening Post.

“Every time a player crosses that line in a Wigan Athletic shirt, they are playing for their futures.

“There’s no given in this game, and over time I will assess everything.

“I’m only three weeks into the job, and what I have got is a group of players who are honest, who want to work hard and want to be here.

“I’ve not taken over a fractured dressing room. Everyone here wants the best for Wigan Athletic.”

Mackay also confirmed he will be looking to do business in the upcoming transfer window – although he did warn of the dangers of pursuing a quick-fix.

“If we can, we’ll certainly look to tweak the squad,” the Latics boss revealed.

“January is an interesting window in terms of the pool of players out there.

“You’ve got to be careful about the type of character you go for, and take into account why someone is available.

“There is the freshness aspect, though, and if we are able to do one or two then we will do.

“But it will always be linked to the financial prudence at the club, and will depend on outs as well.

“The squad here is maybe too big, and over time it will be reshaped.”

Latics, who are 23rd in the ladder, are next in action on Saturday when they travel to sixth-placed Watford.

I’m thinking exactly the same gl, Malky’s format seems to mirror image what Rosler was doing so who is in charge of playing affairs? who knows maybe it’s the backroom staff where change is really needed.

Laughing at the people who were convinced that we would start playing 442 as soon as Malky arrived.

Still not convinced that 442 would work but I’d give a proper 352 a go. Can’t get any worse, can it?

3-5-2 … 3 central defenders and wing backs with defence been the main priority. Boyce managed to convert to the role of a wing back a few year ago so I don’t see why some of the younger guys can’t.

But we must stop leaking goals daft goals, those at Sheff Weds were laughable watching Ramis was like watching unders 6’s swarm towards the ball

I’d guess that Perch might make a decent wing back, as would Taylor.

              My team would be:

              Carson
3 centre backs (from Boyce, Ramis, Figuero, Barnett, Caldwell)
              Perch, Kvist, Maloney, McCann, Taylor
              Fortune, McManaman
