Heard a rumour that if we avoid relegation this season the points will still be deducted by EFL next season.
Doesn’t sound right to me that , can anyone confirm what happens should be avoid the drop ?

Think the efl have been clear on that, points deduction this season unless we finish in the relegation zone, in which case next season they get deducted

        #187967

And since we can no longer be relegated without a points deduction did anyone notice?), the next season scenario is now moot.

If we stay 12 points clear of 3 of 5 clubs down there were safe.
Those 8 against Hull could be crucial.

The EFL have stated their rules
12 pts deducted at the end of the season and if we finish in the bottom 3 12 pts deducted in League One.
I bet it was a Bolton fan who started that rumour

Well I dont see how they can deduct us points when there are are so many investigations going on by different parties including the EFL carrying out their own. You dont find someone guilty of a crime then have a court case. I think the unfit for purpose EFL are waiting to see how we finish then they will try to save face by supporting us if we avoid relegation. Until everything is out in the open and it’s been proven how and why we are in administration I dont see how the EFL can take any action whatsoever. COYL

Forget the points deduction, we’ll stay up anyway.

The question is, how do they stop this from happening again?

Simple, I would make 3 changes,

              1) Whoever makes the rules when clubs are bought cannot be the same who Police them.

              2) If a potential new owner puts forward to buy a club and the money used is not fully transparent and full background checks are indifferent then they should be refused. Simple checks on Choi and Way would have shown they were unfit to own a club, this is clearly were the EFL failed and need sueing.
They clearly let Wigan Athletic down.

              3) All new owners must place £10 million into a fund holding bond type scheme so the money can be used for when the owner says can’t be arsed. If you sell the club without going into administration you get whatever’s left in the kitty returned therefore the incentive is for the owner to find a buyer before the money runs out.

So to buy a club you need the funds to buy it. The funds to run it. And an extra £10m.

                We’d have about 5 clubs.

Turkey’s and Christmas this, there is no way the club’s Will vote for really strict owner rules as they won’t be able to sell. it will pass and be forgotten, hopefully we stay up get a new owner, but in a bit it will be forgotten, not by us but in general, my opinion. It has happened so many times be for and the world carries on, Bolton, bury, Blackpool, Aldershot and many more. And still no news on Sheffield Wednesday, that is a disgrace how long that is taking, not fair on anyone. Feeling a bit cynical tonight!!

The Sheff Weds decision has to be in before the season ends. Looking at their crimes I cannot possibly see how they will get away without a 9point deduction.
Derby are in a similar boat but it won’t make a difference to them

Here’s abit of info regarding Sheff Weds and points deduction. Basically it’s about selling their ground, and showing in in their books a year later, here :

Sheffield Wednesday strenuously deny the charge over breaching Profitability and Sustainability rules and because of the complexity of the case, it is likely the hearing will last for the rest of the week.

                      Mediavine
The charge relates to the sale of the club’s Hillsborough stadium to Chansiri for £60m in the 2017/18 season.

Wednesday have said they believe the charge to be “unlawful” and challenged the league’s decision.

The dispute has been going on since November 2019, and if the club are found guilty, the potential punishment ranges from a points deduction to a transfer embargo or fine.

It will be an independent commission that will impose it if at all, although they can also choose when to punishment, although reports claim it will be before the end of the season.

                      Mediavine
So how many points could Sheffield Wednesday be deducted?

Finance guru Kieran Maguire said in a Q&A on Yorkshire Post: “There is a tariff for points deductions which is linked to the amount of Financial Fair Play limits of £39million loss over three years.

“So that part is actually relatively easy to calculate if we know what the fair value of Hillsborough is.

“That element of the charge should be able to be calculated with a degree of certainty once they establish the ground is worth X.

“For all we know there’s no reason to say it’s not worth the £60m that was paid for it.

“I’m not a surveyor. A surveyor did value it at that value.

“In respect of potentially going up to 21 points, this is where it gets a bit vague.

“The rules say that there are aggravating and mitigating circumstances which can increase the deduction by a further nine points.

“So if there’s evidence that Wednesday were not helping the EFL with enquiries then the panel might decide to give an addition penalty.

“If you look at Birmingham’s case, because they reported themselves when they realised they’d signed a player when they shouldn’t have done, their points deduction was reduced.

“It’s a bit like a judge in a court case, they will have a broad tariff that can be increased or decreased such as ‘has the person turned themselves in’ etc.

“So it’s up to 12 points in respect of FFP, and it’s up to a further nine points in terms of how far Wednesday have assisted with the enquiry.

“A total of 21 points is the worst-case scenario.”

They could get deducted 21pts if found guilty. Similar to a judge would if you plead not guilty and waste the courts time which they did for 8 months

So 21 PTS. But wait, they are a big traditional club so it looks like 9 PTS at the most.

Or worse, a transfer ban and Windass comes back.
Huddersfields not so surprising victory over West Brom (best away record in the Championship) means a Charlton win will push both Huddersfield and Charlton in the safety zone from us.
So let’s look at the worse scenario, (sorry)
                          We lose to Charlton.
Hull play Luton at 3pm. If they draw we would have to mimium draw or beat Fulham in our last game and hope that one or both Hull or Luton lose their last games against millwall and leeds. We need Brentford to beat Stoke so Leeds Derby do Leeds tomorrow all hung over.

                          So,
If Hull or Luton win we would need both to lose but we would have to beat Fulham a draw would be no good.

Todays game is actually more important than the Fulham game because a loss means pressure cooker pressure against Fulham but more importantly it’s out our hands.

                          The best scenario is
                          We beat Charlton,
                          Hull v Luton draw
Then a draw would see us stay up. We could stay up even if we lose that’s if both Hull and Luton fail to win. Even if Hull and Luton draw and we lose were safe based on us beating Charlton today.

I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing both Hull luton playing each other. If they weren’t this could have been settled today

                          #188010

Regardless of the “what if” scenarios, there is one fact:

Your safety is in your hands.

Now go and beat Charlton, and then beat Fulham reserves (there is no way they will be risking their first team squad just before the play-offs).

Cheers Mutty. Was watching news last night and we have NE news in Alston.
Donald is certainly digging his heels in for the money he wants to sell Sunderland for. Now it isn’t so long ago he came in and was regarded as a bit of an hero. Its hero to zero in no time. So it looks like another who went in for the glory and prestige but without much substance and  reliability on the huge season ticket sales and parachute payments. Seems like there’s more shit housing going on with owners than on the pitch. Hoping with the expected fall in season ticket sales your fans don’t end up in the shite like us.
