Yeah but a draw gets me more points than if they win which is what I predicted ! Even if they lose 2-1 I get more points than if they win 2-1 ? :?
I can’t believe if a team wins 5-0 & you’ve predicted 5-0 for the other team you get 5 points, more points than if you predicted 4-0[/quote]
you would get zero for predicting the 5-0 if the other team won 5-0…. 9 points for the 4-0FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
18 June 2010 at 12:59 am #37771I think you’ve got the points allocation totally wrong Jayt.
I predict Mexico to beat France, take a big gamble that pays off, but just get 3 points. Other people back france to win [the easy option] and get 6 points cos one of their team scores is correct.
bloody rubbish Jayt!! :xFrom Matlock to ManU

bloody rubbish Jayt!! :xI cant change it anyway, but go on, tell me how the points system should be! If it seems better I’ll use it for next seasons Prediction League.

18 June 2010 at 2:41 am #37790No problem, 6 points for correct winning team and 3 points for the correct score for each team. Thats what all the other prediction leagues are doing that I’m in.
The knack for me is guessing who’ll win rather than the pot luck of getting one of the teams scores right. if I would have put 0-0 for evey game i’d be nearer the top than the bottom, almost guaranteeing 6 points per game.
Having said all that, it doesn’t make a gnats bollux worth of difference to my plight, I would still be a country mile at the back of the front runners. :(From Matlock to ManU

The theory is that to get the correct winning team you generally have a much better chance than 33% (because usually the stronger team will win) so therefore should get less points than for guessing the correct score of any particular team in which there could be as little as a 10% chance of you getting it correct and so should demand more points when guessed correct.

I agree with JR. Personally, I think that the fact that predicting the goals scored is more down to guesswork should attract less points. Giving more points for predicting the correct result, whicbh admittedly is easier because of the reduced guesswork, would probably have the effect of keeping the spread of points scored throughout the league closer, thereby possibly keeping more people involved in the hunt for prizes longer.
That said, we all knew the rules before we started so we should all stop belly-aching. It’s great fun either way, and anyone who sees it as anything other than fun is really not getting what it’s all about. ;)
18 June 2010 at 3:08 pm #37832To end the point, however I do the point system, it will be wrong (or right) just depending on who is doing well. I will do it that way for the new season to see what difference it makes.
You’ll be glad to know that Work IT Recruitment have agreed to sponsor the League next season, though it will only be one league this time – I will see whether it will be just the Premier League, or prem league and latter stages of the FA Cup…. I will ask for your thoughts on that after the world cup has finished, plus what an acceptable fee for entering the prize competition will be.

19 June 2010 at 3:09 am #37922On the point JT was making about next years league, could we not do both Premier League & FA Cup, but in the FA Cup do only a selection of games ?
