1) I didn’t get wet; because I watched on Sky Plus.
2) I saved £7 in fuel and £6 in parking.
3) We were spared from having to watch 30mins extra time.
4) We can now concentrate on the league (tongue in cheek).
Some fans will say quit whinging; but you can only say what you see and we were toothless (even with only the goalkeeper to beat from the spot). Tame in the first half and useless in the second. Two games in, and I just can’t see our formation working; or is it only me ?
I attended tonight and I thought there was a couple of good things.
Hugill needs service and if we can concentrate on getting the ball to him he’ll get us a few goals, he did make the defenders work and think while was on.
Thelo missed an absolute sitter which you can ill afford to do. He puts that away it’s a different game altogether.
Carragher looked like the likely successor to Hughes very competent just needs games under his belt but a solid performance.
The difference was
Subs
Barnsley took control once both sides made their subs and as I previously said, thats our problem, our subs/squad are not good enough.
Rankine stunk the place out in the 1st half then the 2nd half we managed to put a few balls through along the floor to him and he made a couple of good dangerous runs.
Stones came on and ran around like a chicken with it’s head cut off. In 30 minutes he was burnt out. He needs to learn, you cannot chase defenders down 24/7 regardless of what instructions your given.
Now the bad points,
For me Adeeko isn’t good enough and I wasnt convinced with Ramsey. The 1st half we were ok as a whole and held our own but 2nd half we were simply pinned down.
Again, were not building, making progress from last season we’re just replacing half the squad with a new squad and starting all over again by packing it with the cheapest option then expect the manager to perform a miracle.
So, is this the norm now for us?, every 12 months 16 out 16 in ?. I’m beginning to sound like a stuck record now but come December/Jan when all the injuries start to arrive thick and fast we will be threadbare, out on our feet to the point we will at some point take a tonking I’m sure of that.
Maloney needs a rebuild and I’m in no doubt he’s been sold a pig because he seriously cannot be happy with that squad far from it.
Get ready boys, because this season will be one hell of a rocky bumpy ride. It will be like sliding down the north face of Everest with piles the size of grapefruits, excruciatingly painful.
If Maloney gets a tune out these lot he should be presented with a crown of river duggy nettles and given the freedom Norley and Platt Wazz because the squad is not his choice and not good enough

I’ve just watched Maloney’s post match interview. He saw it the same, that second half last 30 mins was abysmal. Not only that you can clearly hear his anger and frustration in the interview were in a round about kind of a way he points out that the young lads need to become men in super quick time i.e. lack of senior players.
I think we all know that boys to men in football doesn’t happen overnight, it’s a gradual weaning process were young lads are drip fed minutes on the pitch while learning off the more experienced players like a young apprentice at work.
You could see it in his face and hear it in his voice he’s angry, clearly frustrated and angry at been let down by the owner and the board for not been backed he been stuck out the back to dry.
I honestly cannot see him making Christmas I just can’t not unless he brings in 3-4 senior players before the window shuts. He will definitely lose his cool (it’s simmering well) and eventually his feelings will pour out and that will be it, bye bye, gone next guy in huge pay off

Barnsley missed three sitters in that last thirty minutes and should have had us dead and buried by 90 minutes.
Now I’ve calmed down, I can make a more reasonable assessment.
Positives:
Luke Chambers is class, and probably the best performance of the night.
James Carragher, bar a few lapses of concentration, will be able to slot into league 1 football easily.
Will Aimson is calm and well assured.
Uncertain:
I like Matt Smith, but he tends to slow the game down too much and quite often misses the opportunity for that quick killer pass. He needs to learn when slow is good and when urgency can be dangerous for the opposition.
Calvin Ramsay; I will give him more games before I reach a verdict.
Josh Stones looks to have potential, but I feel he is trying too hard to impress; chasing the ball rather than getting into space.
Negative:
SM is biting his lip at the moment, or following the corporate line in posh speak. His body language in press interviews has gone more introspective and he can’t look the camera in the face; which is an indication that he is not saying what he really wants us to know. Yes I think CW is right; and when SM’s patience with the virtual board explodes, he’ll be off. Probably when he’s given some loose change to spend from the Hughes deal.
People laughed at Dave Whelan when he promised to take us to the Premier League. At least in that era, the ambition of the club was in the open for everybody to poke fun at. But we did have the last laugh in the end and that was our most memorable era ever; that will never be repeated.
Been saying for a couple of weeks that I feel sorry for Maloney due to the lack of backing from the guy with deep pockets, Maloney is now showing his frustration and rightly so.
On the flip side there is no excuse for the style of play and ridiculous substitutions (making substitutions for the sake of it) Maloney knows how we can play when the shackles are off so why revert back to this garbage once again? I am aware the bulk of the squad is made up of young kids and cast offs but that is no excuse for playing negative football, no doubt the kids parent clubs or where ever they’ve come from encouraged them to play some sort of attractive football then they come here and are instructed to play Maloney ball.
If the squad were playing decent football and still getting beat by the odd goal the fans would be 100% behind Maloney, he more or less built this squad of players, if Danson did give him a few quid to spend would he spend it wisely and/or change the style of play? Not too sure he would to be honest!
Chambers is a class act and really should be in the Championship this L1 is far too low for him
Carragher? very promising, very vocal as well, he kept Ramsey in his place making sure he was in the right place.
Yeah he did make the odd fluff but he’s a defender We all know Hughes will be missed but when all said and done and be honest with yourself, was he really £5-£7 million good?.
I’m not slagging the lad off far from it but he was also prone to the odd fook up. He could go on to the Prem agree or he could end up in L2 who knows he’s that young it can go either way to.
Rankine had a shocker in the 1st half then the 2nd half he came out the blocks like a greyhound and I thought, he’s had a bollocking and been given licence to thrill then two exciting runs later he’s back to pinging it backwards so its definitely in his locker no doubt he’s just not confident or been told safety first Green Cross Code style football.
Matt Smith far far too deep. I’m not sure why he’s constantly taking a 6inch pass from defenders he should be just behind the attacking players dinking little through balls for them to run on to and get in behind, exactly what Rankine did twice before hopping back into his shell.
I felt sorry for Stones, he’s come on and by the way he went at it from the off it looked like he’d been told to press their centre half’s and thats fine just as long the left right wingers do the same all press together or it’s a simple game of piggy in the middle for the opposition defenders, Stones = piggy.
But for me everything starts from the middle. If you win the middle battle you normally go on to win it. We lack badly so so badly in the middle sometimes to the point I wonder who the f”cks meant be in there
Adeeko? Simply not for me. Never wins anything and every pass back or sideways if your really lucky.
These lads need to be filled with confidence via the manager, coaching staff and senior players. They just need to just go for it.
As a team we need to unleash these young lads, let them play with flair and an attacking style of football.
When your that young you should have no fear that’s unless the man in charge won’t loosen his chain
