Best way to describe what I thought about today. No different from last season tons of passes, possession but virtually no threat. Should have gone 1 up but how many touches does Asgaard need ??? New faces fair enough but I thought Rankine continually doubled back instead of racing for the byline. Hugill is very quick and needs to have it played to his feet instead of us launching it high to him. Thought Charlton were poor so definitely feel like we’ve been mugged.

Yeah that was a hard watch. It’s simple there’s too too many young lads with very little experience.

Hugill looked ok but it’s that age old problem we’ve had for the past few years:-

        Do we blame the forward?
        Or
Do we blame the service to the forward?

Me?, I think it was the service today. I really don’t see the point of throwing a high ball up to young Hugill with 2 strapping centre half’s either side of him when he clearly wanted to play off the shoulder of the defender but if he does he needs support coming from the middle.

Hugill kept asking for the ball to be played on to his left side but for some reason we kept hitting it down the middle on to his right.

The difference between Rankine and Jones was there for all to see. Jones cutting inside gave Charlton a headache and a half but on the right Rankine simply wasn’t brave enough deciding to turn back at every opportunity.

Why did Hughes come on?, was Aimson injured?, tired? was it the player or the managers choice? because he looked ok to me.

No I’m only saying this because Hughes’s head must be on a different planet right now and it clearly showed with a few big blunders and one costing us a goal.

Up till then Charlton huffed and puffed but weren’t threatening as Kerr came but I said to a friend “A mistake will win this” and it did.

I might get slated here but Adeeko for me is not good enough. I’ve seen enough of him and not enough improvement in that time for him to justify a place on every team sheet.

I’m afraid between him and Rankine that right side was pointless no go area.
Had Kerr and Aimson had of stayed on I think the game fizzles out to a boring 0-0 but sadly it didn’t.

Danson needs to back the manager
He needs money (wages or signing fee) to sign players not 12 month loanees. We need to build not chop and change every season because next season.

If we’re to steady the ship we need to add an experienced midfielder and only then we might and I can’t stress might enough) we might be in with a slim chance a top half finish

Agree with that. All of it.

What we need to do is stop this tippy tappy backwards and sideways passing nonsense. This one up front crap. We aren’t City. Why does everyone want to play Pep Ball? It’s boring as hell and clearly does NOT suit us. Everybody tries to play that way, one up front…absolute bore fest shite.

442…2 up front, balls into the box from the wide channels. Do it. Other teams will be expecting a Pep ball V Pep ball contest. Absolute bo**ocks to Pep ball! Get the ball down the flanks and into the channels, crossed in to TWO forwards trying to get on the end of it.
I absolutely DETEST this tippy tappy sh*te we try and play. It is God awful. And play at a greater tempo, with intensity and purpose. Instead of 2nd gear laboured, turgid football.
Get some experienced dirty b**tard of a midfielder to solidify it all and allow Matt Smith to push up. He was playing that deep today, he was like a bloody sweeper. He and Adeeko do NOT work. Adeeko is not good enough. Simple as.

If they don’t change, and they won’t, it’s going to be a long long season and we could be in real trouble. In his post match comments, Maloney shocked me by saying he was happy with what he saw. He also said Hughes head wasn’t right…so why was he even in today’s squad then? Shouldve been nowhere near. If he’s going or wants to go, get him gone.

Danson can either throw a bit of money for some solid reinforcements, or else be looking at a relegation battle. That team has League 2 written all over it. And a poor League 2 side at that.

Come on, we’re in a mess.

Maloney cost us the game today, very poor substitutions. Why put Hughes on when Aimson and Kerr looked so assured at the back. As soon as Hughes came on we looked vulnerable. Why take Smith off but leave Adeeko on ? Sorry, really can’t understand some of the subs today. Would have been reasonably happy with a 0 – 0 but we gave them the points ,so bloody frustrating. Ahaghh!!! ! football I just love it !

Don’t know why you would ever change your centre backs at 0-0 when they are totally dominant 🤷‍♂️

Least it looks like Aimson is a good bit of business to replace Hughes based on today.

Got to be braver in attacking positions. Jones started running at them and they couldn’t deal with it

I can only think Aimson asked to come off (I never saw any signals) otherwise it was a classic Maloney 5 off 5 on.
Hughes should have never been used simple as that. That lads heads right up his arse. We need to sell and move on. Hull want to stretch the payments while Wigan want more cash up front.

Considering Hull recently got £20oddmillion from selling i can see why there’s a delay.

For the umpteenth time ffs! I said last season that any other manager would get a tune out of that squad and I’ll say it again this season, it’s the managers tactics that are holding us back.

You only have to think back to the last few games of last season, look at the difference once the players were allowed to play with freedom and express themselves, the tactics installed by the manager are alien to most of the current squad.

We’re stuck with Maloney because Danson won’t find anyone cheaper plus Danson doesn’t want promotion he’ll have to dig deep in to those deep pockets IF it ever happens.

Looked through all the league 1 stats….particularly that of the home teams, goal attempt, shots on goal and possession and ours is to put it nicely, pathetic and far and away the worst….again. Charlton imo were poor and for all our nice passing around we apart from Aasgaards balls up were pitiful in last 3rd. Midfield crying out for an enforcer,Smith needs to play 20 yards advanced and Maloney needs to curb some of his substitutions. Then Danson needs to get down the back of the sofa if money so tight to get us a target man because what’s the the point of all these wingers if no one gets anywhere near their balls in……if we can get em in ….Jones did….Rankine stuck in reverse. Hugill will score goals but we need to play to his strengths……his pace is his weapon not ariel strength……..but guess what we do……..Wigan Athletic the strikers graveyard. Aimson looked quality and with Kerr looked solid so the substitution baffling…….unless injured. As for the Hughes saga…..Hull trying to buy him on Klarna…..F### em off…..they’ve got 20 million burning a hole so pay a decent lump up front or piss off……Hope the owners stand their ground.!!!@

Unless we bring in 3-4 experienced players were f*cked. That current squad and tactics of passing pass pass pass (only Jones ran at them ball at feet) we’ll 100% go down.

We’ve already got 3 players out injured so imagine come Jan with all the cup games and mid week league games that squads going to be thread bare.

After Saturday I’m worried, seriously worried. I just saw nothing. The other thing that worried me was Maloney’s post match interview were he said “I couldn’t have asked for anything more from my players”

Someone needs to tell Maloney as well, we lost and their keeper never had to make a save. If that’s the best out players can do I think there’s a subliminal massage in that interview to Danson basically saying:-

That’s as good as it gets with these lot not my fault

Danson wouldn’t have a clue how we are playing he’s hardly at the stadium unless the Worriers are playing, even if he did turn up I don’t think he’d realise the problems I don’t think he has that much football understanding if I’m honest!

He needs someone with football knowledge in a advisory role reporting back to him after each match, that said is Danson that arsed about ambition for the club? I don’t think he is.

Edit…Just a afterthought, does Danson trust Maloney in the transfer market if he did give him money to spend? Leam Richardson was at the stadium on Saturday apparently.

I think we were bought for the stadium nothing else. Had we have gone into administration (as we previously know) admin would have been be very very reluctant to split the club from the ground plus we have a lease anyway.

Hughes and Tickle would have gone for peanuts leaving us in more mess than you can ever imagine.

Then Danson would have to pay a few bob to adminstration their fees and no doubt he’d have more competition to the take over.

I don’t think Danson liked the thought of such a wealthy guy been the tenant with the Rugby to another owner who like the Bahraini binmen did then winding the egg chasers up and calling the shots.

Now he has full control he can basically do whatever he likes which right now is absolute nothing with the football.

Any money from the sale of say Hughes or Tickle has been pencilled to fund the running of the club that’s the rumour.

It’s the devil and the deep blue sea, we’ll never ever be self sufficient not many clubs are so unless we sell a gem or two every year we’ll always be reliant simply down to the white elephant stadium running costs hanging round our necks

I get that we need become a selling club but to uncover a gem you need to invest back into the youth and the scouting system plus a couple of older players to bring them through.

Look, he’s not short of a few bob surely he knew he’d have to bring players in once the wage bill was hugely slashed but all’s I see is super young lads and the majority on loan.

I can’t think for one minute he honestly thinks this current squad is good enough to push up the table then sell a few on?.

He’s either blind to it or right now he just wants to balance the books and do nothing else but my question is, for how long. It’s a long term plan rebuilding and 2nd season in 18 players have a year left built mainly on loanees.

As for Hughes?, he’s going so he shouldn’t be playing full stop. His heads gone and that showed.

In the famous words of Haircut 100:-

“Where does it go from here?
Is it down to the lake I fear?
Ay ay ay ay ay ah
Ay ay ay ay ay ah”

I’m lost as we’re were heading, confused, disillusioned, with little or no guidance or monthly updates via anyone bar the manager the club for me has lost something. Maloney is clearly unimpressed and this could tarnish any future managerial move based on how he performs and he can’t prove his worth without been backed by the owner.

                          Little Wigan, we’re taking the p1ss ?

Same here……I just don’t know what to think. “Sustainability”…..the go to word to silence any criticism. Investment seems to be at the barest. Loanees eventually go leaving a continuous rebuilding and a budget core of contracted young players. I admire Danson because it obvious his ego takes a back seat but the silence only creates a sense that he isn’t really interested in our long term future. Nearly every owner of a lower league club knows that it will run at a loss and personal investment is on occasion needed if they have a modicum of ambition. Whose to say he hasn’t?…None of us really know whether any of the potential Hughes funds will be reinvested but what I do feel is Maloney’s body language looks like he’s completely frustrated and with 2 window weeks left the titanic is preparing to leave the harbour.

                            #203450

Bit like the Knob End scenario.
They have only signed 3 players in the window and have no goal scoring threat.
On Sunday, Ryan Lowe quit. Quit; not pushed !
He reckons that he cannot take the current team any further. In other words he’s not been allowed to invest by Ridsdale and so he’s told em to stick it !
