FAO Horc,LHL, Donny Egg etc and all those who have been tics forever,is this the worst Latics ever?. Im baseing it on how few points we have won at home this season and the fact we have a comedy defence. Im trying to think of a worse side than this. Yes this league is high standard and our squad isnt which is understandable considering the past 2 years. But the tics have always give it a go.What do you guys reckon

The Kenny Swain team surely gotta be the worst?

      #197802

I was thinking that skeggy but im sure that side as dull as it was picked up more points at home

      #197803

Just woke up, thinking I was having a nightmare; only to realise the gravity of the situation

This has got to be the worse run of defeats in our history, when you consider that our Manager is a renowned international defender. What was the game plan at the outset today ? KT reckoned that we were good value for the first 70 minutes

Look he inherited this side and with a now depleted and make shift defence Kolo has a far bigger job on his hands than he ever imagined.
Surely your not going to blame a manager who’s been here 5 minutes ??. This mess can be all traced back to a poor summer window and a fair few players still here who are not up to the task.

I’ve stuck up for Power and McClean for far to long but the time has come for a change, this January transfer window will make or break us.

Rumour has it 1 or 2 players want out so not only does the manager have a growing injury list has the job of replacing jump ship players.
Personally I think the owners “thought” they could get away with the squad from last year and when the results didn’t happen they took the cheaper option (before the transfer window) sack the manager and bring in a new one, one of these new younger ex Prem players rather than 6-7-8 players and hope he can save the day with this current L1 squad.
In the summer we should have moved a few on and added and strengthened the whole squad not with possibles but with 1st team players. Simple senario, is Fletcher any better than Humphrys? So why??.

Theres only 2 saving graces right now
        1) we only have to watch this shit at home once this month
        2) were a knocking bet at both teams to score opposition to win

Time for a huge huge squad upheaval I just hope Kilo’s magic wand is fully spelled up

I just hope Kolo has a hit list of possible loanee players and m8s in higher places he can call in bigtime favours because without this I don’t think the owners are prepared to cough up and save the day

        #197809

Yes this league is high standard

IMHO, its far weaker than in previous seasons. Hull are 6 points off a playoff place. Only one side is averaging less than 1 point per game (and only just). There are two sides running away with the league and the rest could finish anywhere and beat anyone on their day. Even after a nightmare Xmas, you are still one win away from 4th bottom. You’ve had spells when you are on top, but so have the opponents. Very few games are completely one-sided.

Sure, its shit being bottom, but its not like you are cut adrift.

I don’t consider this to be the worst team we’ve ever had. That honour would go to the Teams we had during 1990 – 1994 BW (Before Whelan.)

I agree Runcorn. Nothing will beat the delights of watching the likes of Chris Duffy and Pat Gavin!!

The team 90-94 was made up of crocks, Free transfers ,sunday league players ( two goalkeepers i can think of straight away !!)and has beens.
The wages they were paid would have been laughable compared to what this present bunch are probably being paid but i never came away thinking none of them were not having a go.
In fact i would have gladly put Neill Rimmer or Ian Kilford in that midfield yesterday ahead of what we had yesterday for sure, at least they tried their hearts out.
The question is whether this is the worst bunch we have ever seen and i would say yes but lets not forget Leam cobbled this bunch together and made it into a very good league 1 team but unfortunately not in any way shape or form a championship one.
Latics teams have always been used to the underdog tab but maybe this has changed now especially by the reaction i am seeing from away crowds at home matches.
My view is to use this month to weed out those that want away and try and replace as best he can while also looking to our development squad to see if any more are worth giving a run and the FA cup game would be a great opportunity.
I would certainly try this as the standout players of recent weeks have been Lang , Hughes and Asgaard , all home grown players.
When all is said and done at least we have a club to support , look where we were 2 years ago and it puts everything going on now into perspective and i most certainly didn’t storm off yesterday before the final whistle.

We need to back the manager. This isn’t something he’s created it’s what he’s inherited. Theres players who want to go well I say go. McClean needs to go free up wages, Shinnie another, Magennis won’t be on peanuts the list goes on and on.

The pressure on Kolo is huge. Not only does he need to repair a broken side but he has to make it a winning side all in the matter of a few weeks and keep us in the Championship, not much to ask for.

What we need to do is get behind the manager 100% and the players. The blame lies with the owners not the manager, I just hope they back him to the hilt.
I don’t forget been in admin for sure and can’t thank them enough but on the same token

They can way away from Latics, the only way we get away is when we die

In fairness Vince, the likes of Rimmer,Kilford & Andy Lyons were by far the better players & did indeed always give 100%.

I’m thinking more of your Pat Gavin, Neil Morton, Greg Strong, Lee Rogerson et al.

Considering the appalling home form this season I think the fans have got behind the team and have been remarkably loyal and patient . I still think the club should have stuck with Leam Richardson and backed him in the summer where it was obvious we needed to strengthen. However , he has gone now and we must back the new manager. Eyes are now very much on the Board ,let’s see how much they are willing to spend this transfer window.
As regards the worst Latics side ever .It’s hard because we have played at so many levels but probably the early 1990’s. We had lost our way as a club and I remember going to a fourth division game against Shrewsbury Town at Springfield Park. The attendance was 1,200 and we lost 2-5 we were useless ,at the time I thought we can’t get any worse than this.

Nuneaton, things are pretty bleak at the moment but here is the 1994 team.
There is only John Butler in that team that would get anywhere near todays squad.

                  Simon Farnworth
                  John Butler
                  Matt Carragher
                  Joe Jakub
                  Dave McKearney
                  David Miller
                  Neil Ogden
                  Brendan Ormsby
                  Paul Rennie
                  John Robertson
                  Greg Strong
                  Mark Wright
                  Andy Farrell
                  Ian Kilford
                  Andy Lyons
                  Neill Rimmer
                  Anthony Black
                  Pat Gavin

                    It’s a simple equation,
                    Stop conceding goals.

We’ve kept 2 clean sheets all season but we’re always good for a goal. We need players back from injury and at least one experienced centre half if not 2 in the Jan window.Another position that is desperate?, left back.
This needs to be sorted asap, I mean, how long do they think McClean can play like a wing back ???. He simply doesn’t have the legs.
Play Naylor in front of a back 4 as insurance, a position he normally plays well and hopefully plug the leaking hole.

Drop Power put in Shinnie & Cousins for me making sure the ball is played on the ground not lob it up top to the big mon.

Width?, We’ve played far too long without even a smudging of pace or width. Watch Wyke highlights from his Sunderland days. Hardly a goal from wacking it up to him most were him coming late from crosses.

Let’s fcukin well give Scully a chance you know he might just surprise us, you never know. He looked good against us last season and scored.

Once the goals stop going in, we can then “try” to boss and control the ball in the middle and with a bit of width added for the likes of Magennis Fletcher Wyke then we might stand half a chance.
Time for the loyalty cards to be wazzed in the duggy Mr Toure, something Richardson was never prepared to do. Players not good enough or not prepared to pull a plum out,
                    Show them the door

My points above is all I hear week in week out so please tell me why the fcuk those on the bench don’t see it , it’s a fcukin mystery to me

John Butler wasnt in that 1994 side. He only came back in the white, blue and green kit, in 1995-96. Belting servant to Latics.

Andy Lyons was playing for us for £200pw atvone point, whilst also working as a postman.
I went away to Leek Town in the FA Cup with that team. We snatched a replay with a last minute equalizer. We also got tonked 5 nil at Villa in the league cup. Graham Barrow came back and steadied the ship, before he was replaced by John Deehan who transformed us, with Whelan’s money helping, and we finally got the show on the road in 1996-97 by winning promotion with the Three Amigo’s inspired team.
