Can anyone explain why, when Leeds had two players down injured at the same time, both attended to by the trainer, they didn’t leave the field of play as the rules state? Thought there may be a ruling where if two people are injured, and require the trainer, then they don’t have to leave the field, but it happened a couple of weeks ago when Liverpool played, I think Southampton, and two Southampton players were off the field when Liverpool scored.

What a journey!9 April 2014 at 11:11 pm #129689The player tying his boot was ‘another’ player’ There were definitely two players being attended to by the trainers at the same time the player was tying his boot, as a few fans sat near to me where shouting at the ref that they should have left the field of play. I too taped the game so I’ll check it tomorrow. If I remember it was about the 1/2 hour mark as I thought at the time I would check the recording when I got back home, and noted the time.

If you watched it again after watching it live, you need a good talking to.
After 55 minutes I was begging the ref to blow early as it was apparent by then we were not going get anything from the match.
I somehow stayed to the end, but it was a struggle.10 April 2014 at 1:54 am #129699I had to question my sanity having sat and watched the game from the west Stand. :woohoo:
I must admit though, there was plenty of fast forwarding going on.

10 April 2014 at 6:41 pm #129728Wasn’t it a clash of heads? You don’t have to leave the field after a head injury do you?The rules state that in the case of a serious injury a player should leave the field of play, and only return on the referee’s signal. The only exception are for goalkeepers.
No mention of any special provisions for head injuries – in fact rather the opposite I would have thought.

I’m sure there is something you don’t leave the field for but I may be wrong and probably am.
10 April 2014 at 7:18 pm #129730The only time an injured outfield player, who has received treatment, doesn’t have to leave the field is when the referee is a complete bellend and forgets to make them go off.
This I believe is what happened on this occasion.

The technicality is that if a player is “seriously injured, ie needs assistance, then the refree calls on a “doctor” who arranges for the player to be taken off the pitch and treated. In fact he should not be treated on the pitch.
Commentators who say “it’s ridiculous that a player who has received treatment has to go off” are missing the point. He should have gone off to have the treatment – carried off if necessary. These are rules that don’t seem to be applied.
