I know it was only a friendly today but with one week to go before kick off that performance has got me slightly worried for the coming season.
Not much created up top, not much creativity in midfield and really poor defensively once burn went off. Hope we are MUCH better on Saturday..Rangers played well second half and deserved their win. Pressed us high up the pitch which our lot didn’t like.
30 July 2018 at 2:06 am #170631We did have a makeshift side out though. Only slightly resembling the side we played at Doncaster. A much weaker side than that day missing both our left and right backs plus Power and Grigg.
30 July 2018 at 3:15 am #170632I say they are a mid table championship side so going off that….we are gona play a lot harder teams than that in our league. Gona be a interesting season this year.
30 July 2018 at 11:50 am #170639Was a good game. Enjoyed it.
30 July 2018 at 12:57 pm #170641We know it’s gonna be a hard season and the investment hasn’t arrived yet from the reportedly new owners so we will probably find it tough going for sure. If takeover is completed then we will see how committed they are come January.
30 July 2018 at 1:13 pm #170642However tight the money may be at the moment it was still a surprise to see the CEO board the ten o’clock Trans-Pennine cattle truck out of Preston yesterday.

It’s something constantly bandied around, and while overall the SPL is Championship level I think Rangers are bottom PL/top Championship level – a sort of Brighton, Huddersfield, Stoke, Wolves. They are not a bang average Championship team.
They also have already started their competitive season, with a coupel of Euro games.
We’ll be reet.30 July 2018 at 2:02 pm #170647If takeover is completed then we will see how committed they are come January.Looking at yesterday’s performance January will be too late. 12 months to take over a club doesn’t sound like the new owners are in any kind of rush. Infact, it looks more and more like a cleverly timed plan so they don’t have to spend anymore than needed.
As I’ve said before, as we stand a relegation battle will take place from this Sat that’s unless between now and deadline we don’t bring in a couple of quality players.30 July 2018 at 2:11 pm #170649Or at least a left back.
30 July 2018 at 3:03 pm #170656However tight the money may be at the moment it was still a surprise to see the CEO board the ten o’clock Trans-Pennine cattle truck out of Preston yesterday. It was even better when he got off the return train at Preston to whispers of ‘He had a briefcase with him and some lad in a Wigan tracksuit. He must have been signing a player’
*The lad with him was his 15 year old son, and the briefcase was his son’s suit carrier.
30 July 2018 at 4:56 pm #170658We did have a makeshift side out though. Only slightly resembling the side we played at Doncaster. A much weaker side than that day missing both our left and right backs plus Power and Grigg.Starting line up had 7 from last years team so wouldn’t call it makeshift donny. That said Powell started which was like playing with 10men for what he contributed.
Gibson seemed to have a lot of missed placed passes but maybe that will change the more he plays & they get used to each other.
Thought Walton was terrible and was to blame for at least one goal.
Walker did well when he came one, passed the ball well & drove it forward so hope to see him in the starting 11 on Saturday.

Walker seemed out of favour last season and so I can’t see him figuring too much! Mate of mine is a Hearts fan and he said he is a good player but like I said, I’ve hardly seen him and so can’t comment!
31 July 2018 at 1:11 pm #170670I reckon Walker is behind Massey and Jacobs in the pecking order. He wasnt in the side in League 1 so hows he going to cope at Championship level?

31 July 2018 at 3:01 pm #170674Keep them yes as stand in cover. There’s a lot more in the squad who will struggle to make the step up but Cole Walker Roberts Bruce Colclough Jones rarely made the starting eleven in League 1. It’s the younger lads who will be pushing for a move. The older lads get another year on the gravy train.
