Watched the game yesterday on Latics TV as away on holiday. There was no Tommy Gore on co commentary. Just reading now that he’s been made redundant as part of the cutbacks. Same happened with Jay Whittle a few weeks back. FFS these guys would be on peanuts in the grand scheme of things. How low are we going to stoop as a club?!

I keep saying, I am only still going for GC, Perks, and the lads. Its not their fault.
But I don’t like the club and how it is being ran at all. My friend was saying yesterday that even things like the boards on the main road at the end of stadium way still have last seasons fixtures on! It’s like theyve given up the ghost trying to push the club.
Horrible club, how it is. Just a shell. Any actual ‘Heart’, warmth or sense of Community has gone. Its on life support and I am not sure at all what the end game and outcome will be.
23 August 2026 at 6:41 pm #207516The end game could well be non league football at some point as when costs are cut to the bone that is usually the result.
The current era has a feel of the early 1990s after all the prize assets had been sold off and relegation and near demise to non league followed.23 August 2026 at 7:44 pm #207517Brenda selling her photos and ‘clothes’ online? Sadly this has been the case for the last 3 years; it just gets more and more obvious by the week.
The club is alive (just) but is alive for the sake of being alive, rather than living, let alone living the dream we once lived.
The saddest part of all is we’re owned by one of the richest men in the country.
We get there will never be any wild spending sprees, but surely if you had Danson’s wealth you would try something? I’ve no personal interest in horse racing; I’ve been maybe 5 times in my life to races, but each time I’ve had a few bets for amusement, nothing silly but enough to have fun. Surely Danson could do the same? Flutter a few quid Caldwell’s way to have a bit of fun on a couple of decent players and see where we end up.
Very early days, but this already looks like a very long season ahead. One club at least usually ends up rooted to the bottom all season and that’s got our name on it at the moment.
24 August 2026 at 8:39 am #207520Agree with all. I’ve said a few times I fear us doing a ‘Port Vale’ this season..stuck in the bottom 2 all season and ultimately relegated.
The sad thing is, I think 3 million spent right would get this team promoted. I really do.
Say he did, and we went up. Even if we then struggled, we would get larger attendances…bigger away supports coming, more money coming in, profile would be higher, more appealing to potential buyers and investors…it could get him the sale he wants, and obviously he could ask more for a Championship club. To just see us fester and struggle, it doesn’t make any sense to me, at all. He would sell us a damn sight quicker as a Championship Club. These are supposedly savvy business people. Well its the old ‘speculate to accumulate’ thing. At Championship level, he may even sell us at some profit. Nobody wants Wigan Athletic ‘bottom of League One’, let’s be honest.
***Club are getting an email off me this morning, FAO Joe Riley, giving them the heads up on a Non League Striker in the National League who has been prolific last few seasons, he got 33 last season and has 6 in 3 games this season. Possibly someone we could pick up for 100k. It didn’t take me long to find him, so what are our supposed scouts doing? In an environment where Fylde are turning down 500k from York for Ormerod, its a rough diamond we need to find and take a punt on.
27 August 2026 at 1:36 pm #207532Omerod gone to Posh. I know he’s had a few niggles this past few weeks but as soon as he’s fit, I would bang Adam Moseley up front and finally dispell with Costelloe and Perkins. They are both total flops at this level.
If we win on Saturday the whole mood will change, its not like we are not creating chances we are and plenty of them. Just need somebody to put away say 50% of them.
I still think we will be alright, there is nobody setting this league alight not even Leicester or Sheffield Wed. GC and team need to sort out their best starting 11 and give them a decent run. Too many changes causes inconsistency. What the hell has happened to Mullen? He looked fantastic the other week in the EFL Trophy game. Unbelievable stats.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!27 August 2026 at 5:44 pm #207534We’ll need a miracle to win this Saturday; especially 23 hours before kick off. Sorry, couldn’t resist.
We need to get our act together quick, before a gap opens up and we have two tough games over the following week.
Worrying times.

I hadnt seen he’s been made redundant. He’s 72. Has he not just decided to retire?
