It’s quoted many times; “let’s wait until we’ve played 10 or 12 games, then that will give us a true reflection of how our season is going to end up”.
Well, what does everyone think ?
Considering that we’ve played Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Villa away, Everton away, Man City,( all potential top six finishers ); me thinks not too bad !!!Keep the team together in January, and add another striking option; who knows were we will end up !
Wer’e looking very promising indeed. Like you say we have played 6 potential top 8 teams already. I don’t think we will be looking at a relegation fight this term, If we can keep hold of our good players in jan (and at end of season) Get rid of the deadwood ie King, Kapo, Koumas and De Ridder and bring 3 or 4 quality buys in, I think a Goalie and a striker are a must if we want to push on.
We are definately playing in a way i have never seen before and i know some people don’t like it, mainly the people that are never happy no matter what we do, but i love it. Watching us put 20 passes together with ease against Chelsea is a joy. As i have said before it is still early days and we are only going to get better when players gel and settle in fully. Thomas and Diame are a different class to anything i have ever seen and Zog looks like he is starting to show his true potential.
We will no doubt suffer more bad results like the Wolves and Hull games but if we loose trying to play top football i will take it.The main thing for me is the situation with Paul Scharner. His contract is up at the end of the season and at the start of the season he came out and said this would be his last at Wigan. We all know that come January if this is the case uncle Dave will be bigging him up to any interested parties in order to get some cash and not let him go for free in May. This situation should be sorted asap with the club doing all that is needed to sign him up long term and make him club captain. The team needs a voice on the field and I think he’s ideal for the job.
He signed in January 2006 for 3 and a half years then signed a 2 year extension last year so it summer 2011 his contract ends. It wouldnt surprise me if we arent talking extensions now to his contract.

I think if we can beat teams like Wolves and Hull, and get results against the likes of Villa and Chelsea. Which we have done. Then we will really push on, but until we get another quality striker in and tighten up a little at the back then we won’t be a top 10 team.
My next door neighbour as just given me an article from last sundays sunday times, its all about bobby before he came over from spain and his football philosophy. it also mentions about his passing game and gives an example from the hull game(yeah i know we lost) but hull made a total of 128 passes were has made a total of 547, the same as what arsenal achieve on a good day, anyway have a see if you can find it ont internet, its a really good read.

Appologies. . . But i still would think he should be club captain instead of “the quiet man” Melchiot.
I beg to differ about us and the top ten team thing… I think we already have what it takes to be a top 10 team. I aslo agree that Melchiot shouldn’t be capt., Neither should he start for us… But i think it possibly ould be Bramble for Capt?

It wasn’t a 2 year extension. He had a year left on his contract in the summer of 2008 & negotiated a new 2 year deal. It superceded his existing deal & wasn’t an additional 2 years on top of it.
So it does run out in 2010If thats the case im very surprised it hasnt been spoke about or brought up in the press with teams looking at him!

I’ve kept away for a few weeks, depressed at the negativity. I kept saying keep the faith with Bobby, wait until the end of october before we start seeing things come together. Happy to see that we are ahead of schedule and playing good football.
still a few things to sort out, most of the time B&B are rock solid but just sometimes i think we look very fallible in defence. The Burnley goal is just an example and there were too many times that my heart was in my mouth when the ball was in our box. If that was Arsenal or Manure??
But, it’s looking good and we seem to have become a bit more pragmatic, choosing to take the long ball option at times, which against Wolves we seemed to avoid at all costs and then couldn’t find a way through.
So things are looking good to me, yeh, we’re going to lose more games and possibly heavily on occasions but its good.
As for Paul Scharner, he wanted to play midfield and the only interest he had was for central defence, so he stayed and is getting his way. I think he will stay and i could make a case for him to be Captain when Mario retires at the end of the season.
I even have faith in Bobby that he sees Gomez as a player, give him time. Scotaland is certainly turning out well (even if he is playing the Heskey role – not scoring), hopefully, once he puts one away he’ll get his confidence and get many more.
Things are looking good, lets hope that in January we can get rid of players we want to get rid of and not ones we want to keep, that is my biggest fear. There will be many team coveting players like Figeroa, Thomas, Diame, Rodellaga, N’Zogbia and even Bramble.
