Are we going to be up against them again this season. I know its easier watching highlights and a referee has to make a quick decision but Forest had the penalty awarded yesterday which was only given after the ref had been confronted by a group of screaming Forest players. This influenced his decision and changed a quick decision into a decision that was arrived at by the action of the Forest players. Its called cheating and personally it wasnt even a foul as Sam played the ball.
Secondly how did the Forest player not recieve a straight red card when he gave away our penalty. He took out the last man but also denied us a perfect goal scoring oppurtunity. Its called cheating and that referee cheated us out of three points. Disgusting but we have been there before many times. Still a disgrace.19 August 2018 at 5:39 pm #171215I thought you were at the Alston v Allendale North Pennines League derby yesterday. What was the ref like there?
19 August 2018 at 7:56 pm #171216Ref was poor yesterday donny and the forest lad dove for the pen. Big centre back for them should have had two yellows but ref bottled it.
19 August 2018 at 8:10 pm #171217Looking at it as a ref rather than a Latics fan, I think the ref got both the 2 big decisions right (& any cards issued for also right) imo
Can’t comment on the rest as I wasn’t there & he didn’t handle the Forest penalty situation well but he got it right

What a load of bollox, he pulled Grigg down on purpose to stop him scoring so it should have been a straight red.
19 August 2018 at 10:49 pm #171224How do you think the guy is feeling who lost a million quid with Forests penalty.
19 August 2018 at 11:15 pm #171227How do you think the guy is feeling who lost a million quid with Forests penalty.I felt gutted enough at the loss of two points, but I’m over it now. I bet he isn’t!!! Poor sod.
19 August 2018 at 11:30 pm #171228So I take it the referee must have thought it was accidental!!! What a load of bollox, he pulled Grigg down on purpose to stop him scoring so it should have been a straight red.For a straight red the foul still has to deny an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
At the point the foul was made, Grigg didn’t have control of the ball, the ball was still very high in the air and there was no guarantee that Grigg could’ve reached the height of the ball at the angle he was running at & the keeper could also have come out to claim it.
Bearing all this in mind you can’t say that it was an obvious goal scoring opportunity so deliberate pull back or not, it wasn’t a sending off – if he’d had the ball under control or was literally on the verge of heading it then yes it should have been a red. But it wasn’t, so under the laws of the game a caution was the correct decision no matter how unfair it might seem19 August 2018 at 11:39 pm #171229I somehow think his decision would have gone against us if it was the other way round but I am not a referee.
20 August 2018 at 3:00 am #171234Spot on ther Donny. The ref showed his weakness early doors.
20 August 2018 at 8:01 am #171237To be fair lads with so many different amendments and rule changes what seems like every season it must be extremely difficult for the ref especially early on. I wouldn’t do it for a gold pig.

Their penalty was a penalty but I would love to know why he changed his mind from “no go away” to “penalty” because the assistant didn’t flag.

Knowing how refs work & their body language I don’t think he was saying “No” when he was getting chased. “Go away” definitely but not no – there was no shake of the head to signify a no which there would have been had he said it.
I don’t think he saw the incident clearly as a Latics player stepped across his line of vision just when the challenge occurred. He then watches where the shot goes before chucking a quick glance at the assistant & backing away from the Forest players. Then he keeps telling em to go away which they ignore.
I think during this period he’s asking the assistant whether it was a foul over their headsets. The asst must tell him yes & thats the poInt when he points to the spot.Assts no longer put the flag across their chest for a penalty & at that level he won’t want his asst flagging for a penalty that he should have been in a position to see.
He didn’t handle it well coz he should have stood his ground & insisted the Forest players backed off before making it obvious he was speaking to his asst and then awarding it.
As it is he made it look like he hadn’t given anything before changing his mind after getting chased by the Forest lot. I may be wrong & that is what actually happened but I don’t think so
20 August 2018 at 12:01 pm #171241Thanks TL. Clears it up.
That seems ridiculous about the assistants not flagging especially in the last minute like that because all that happens is everyone on the ground just thinks the ref has been bullied into the call.
