If i remember rightly, Houghton was dropped for that cup game against Chesterfield, (who were playing a division above us and brought a few boys)Chesterfield went 2 goals up before Houghton came off the bench to bag a brace himself.
Surprised to see Cribleys name on the team sheet, I honestly didn’t realise he went back that far! Did Botham not come on as sub in that Scunthorpe match or did I dream it?

I was at the game v Scunny away when Beefy made his debut and we absolutely destroyed them. Good to see the old Springy Scene again and I too would have been at the game. Some greats from the past on the old teamsheet.

Yeah I vagely remember going the away game it was either a Tuesday/Wedsnesday night then managing to get back into town for the last hr in Bluto’s bragging I’d been , was it 2-7 or something ?.

And the Hereford 1st game, can still smell the cow shiite from the cattle market outside the away end.[/quote]
Scunny away was the 81/82 promotion season. The game was Fri night and one of only 3 games i missed all season because work would not let me finish early to catch coach. The goals were shown following day on football focus.

Also if I’m not mistaken,Crewe’s goalkeeper in the Boxing Day fixture was Bruce Grobelaar !!

Not too sure if it was the same match but I do remember him getting booked before the game started for marking out his goal area.

Edit: That game was at Gresty Road not Springfield Park.

Lol – It could almost put you off joining in on this memory lane trip. Thought i’d watched us for a long time but there are some proper long suffering tics fans on here.

That’s probably right a Friday,as I remember begging honkins to let me in Bluto’s half cut.
While were on a memory trip , who remembers 1/2 of these

I forgot got about most of them.

I also went to the Scunthorpe away game. It was a Friday night before the League Cup Final the following day. TV with Jim Rosenthal did an article (obviously how Beefy would be able to plat lower league football against a team like Wigan). Although he tried to ‘put it about a bit’, Latics under Larry Lloyd were no shrinking violets and rendered him ineffective. I remember Lloyd being annoyed that we let in two.
