23 May 2019 at 9:55 pm #178942No arguments from me really, although I was a Shaun MacDonald fan before his injury.Fulham fans a few months ago egg were on the radio moaning that he should never have been allowed to leave. It is indeed a shame he had the injury coz I don’t think we have ever seen how good the lad probably was.
23 May 2019 at 10:26 pm #178943Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Darron Gibson is one of six players being released by Wigan Athletic.
The ex-Manchester United, Everton and Sunderland player, 31, played 18 times after joining the Latics in August.
Winger Callum McManaman is also leaving after starting just one league game since returning to Wigan last summer.
James Vaughan and Jonas Olsson are also departing the club, who have offered forward Nick Powell and Wales Under-21 goalkeeper Owen Evans new deals.
Powell has scored 29 goals in 99 appearances since joining the Latics in 2016 and helped them win the League One title in 2017-18.
But the former Manchester United player, 25, is out of contract and reports have linked him with a move to Wigan’s Championship rivals Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday.
Midfielder Shaun MacDonald, capped four times by Wales, and goalkeeper Dan Lavercombe have also been released by the Latics.
I am sad to see Gibson go. The games he played showed he was a midfield general. His passing superb. I wish him well.
I also am sad Shaun Macdonald has gone. A 100% player who suffered a really bad injury. Good luck to him.
It does look like we may see more youngsters. Let us be positive. I do not want to see a team made up of loaners or over the hill players.
I hope management are positive and AMBITIOUS.
23 May 2019 at 11:28 pm #178944Gibson midfield general?. You got 2 or 3 fantastic passes out of him a game and fek all else. I’ve seen our fitness mon shaking and banging his back pack computer when he has come off thinking it was broke. His work rate for a player of his “calibre” was ridiculous. Thank god cooky and his team agree.

What a journey!23 May 2019 at 11:41 pm #178945I’ll have a tenner on Clarke heads back for a 12 monther after his 5 match performance. Cannot as Sheff Utd needing his services.
But as per usual we’ve done our yearly cull. One of these days we might actually build our squad rather than 12 in 12 out then send 4 or 5 out on loan25 May 2019 at 10:35 am #178958I said Gibson, McManaman & Vaughan were duds at the outset.
At least the fees we got and the wages we didn’t have to pay these planks helped fund the purchase of Will Grigg’s not on fire from you!
26 May 2019 at 10:39 pm #178994After watching Sunderlands build up play after Grigg came on it’s little wonder why he can’t get goals ….zero service. McGeady came on and as good as he is was very greedy .Every 1st touch was followed by a 25 yard shot atempt.
3 June 2019 at 6:38 pm #179138A well written article as to why he shouldn’t go back out on loan to Tranmere.
I’m sure Sheff Utd will be after unloading Clarke and I bet your bottom dollar hes back here for another stint, Cook loves the older type (grandad snatcher)

Well two were duds but Macca didn’t even get a chance so I presume he must have been worse. Will will get the goals for you next season but not if played at right wing back.
4 June 2019 at 12:02 pm #179153A well written article as to why he shouldn’t go back out on loan to Tranmere.I read somewhere that Tranmere want to buy him permanently. Unless it was for another loan & I missed that bit.
