Hi,
I’m new to this forum but not to watching Latics. (over 30 years). I know all this stuff about Roberto being a Latics legend, which I understand. I did predict to a number of friends at the beginning of the season that his shortcomings as a manager would become apparent this season and he would be found out.
If it was any other man Whelan would have sacked him by now. I am not into sacking managers without giving them a chance but surely it is time for him to be replaced. His signings are questionable, tactics and team selection inept and he does not have the calibre of players to play the style of football we play. Playing one up front particularly at home is too negative. We have basically just carried on where we left off last season. No progress. I know all you Roberto fans out there wont like it but where is our next three points coming from. I thought at the start of the season there would be three teams worse than us. I now don’t think so. You are absolutely spot on about his interviews. I’d forgotten to mention those. They usually revolve around, “We are getting somewhere playing where we need to be”

We as a club are in a really strange position here, the facts are
Dave stated upon Bobs appointment that he would never be sacked and that the job was his as long as he (Bob) wanted it.
RM turned down Villa repaying the loyalty Dave has showed his manager
Both Owner and manager talk the same game when interviewed giving the impression we are on the right track.
The way I see it Bobs future is more secure than that of Sir Alex Ferguson no matter how bad it gets. RM said when he got the job that he would need 2 years to make it his team and to get it right. Well sorry mate but we are worse now than when you took over. Basically what im saying is that all these anti Martinez posts are really futile coz the man is fireproof whilst Dave Whelan is the main man.

I think you are right about Whelan, but surely it must get to the point soon that even Whelan must see the writings on the wall. Fans are going to vote with their feet. It certainly wont be the first time Whelan has backtracked on something he”s said! Maybe Martinez will resign! At any rate we are in free fall. If any other man was in charge, he would have gone by now.

Hutchings was sacked after 7 straight defeats I think – though he was always going to be the night watchman while Whelan lined up Bruce…Hutchings just made the conversation easy for Whelan.
06-07 Jewellio went 9 defeats on the trot and he didn’t get the sack.
Yes but galacTIC you could see method in PJ’s signings and tactics you knew he was going to turn it round. Bob has had over 2 seasons and we are still no better at playing his style of football than when he first came.

Yes he did last game of the season against Sheff Utd at Bramhall lane your right he just about turned it round and then he left :oops:
The more I listen to him, the less I understand him. ( Martinez that is) Remembering the kind of player Graeme Jones was I can’t believe he can have any real enthusiasm for the way we play.
Fulham is another game we should win at home. I’m not at all confident and I really do think Whelan needs to bite the bullet. I don’t really think he’s that interested anymore. You might be right about Jones, yet he’s still here, seemingly happy to work with Martinez. So, perhaps you’re not right after all.
