Get Grant Holt back in the team and play Delort or Waghorn alongside him.
It’s got to be worth a try as what we have seen so far this season with one striker just isn’t working.30 November 2014 at 2:56 am #136377Get him back now. Coyle out!

To quote: ‘He had a good couple of games but he’s nothing special’ – so I wouldn’t go pinning my hopes on him being the missing jigsaw piece.

You may be right as there may be more than one piece missing but I’m sure we would be a bit more dangerous going forward with a recognised goal scorer supported by another out and out forward.

He certainly couldn’t be any less prolific than those we currently have but I have to say, when he was here and playing, I didn’t recognise him as the goalscorer he was at previous clubs. Let’s hope, if he does come back, that his Espinoza-like woefulness was all down to his spat with Rosler.

Ball-watching epitomised in a photo.

That’s what I thought when I saw the goal on the telly yesterday. To be fair though, I would expect Barnett & Watson to be doing what they’re doing – its Ramis who inexplicably decides to leave the man he’s marking in order to join in who the fault for the goal truly lies with
1 December 2014 at 2:20 pm #136399Or Taylor playing him on side as well

Absolutely.I rate Ramis as our best centre half – and although he’s not the quickest, his positional play is usually good.
What I would expect in that situation however, is for one of the other players to be aware of Ramis’ error and either scream at him to get back or try and cover themselves – and it looked like neither was done.
1 December 2014 at 3:48 pm #136401Or Taylor playing him on side as wellTaylor is a yard or two behind everyone else but I think Barnett (& possibly Ramis) is playing him onside anyway

You can’t tell where Boyce is from that photo but I’d hazard a guess that he’s got his own man to mark without having to leave him to cover up Ramis’s cock up.
If he hasn’t then a covering player did not have time to track into Ramis’s position & once he’d gone he then wouldn’t have had any chance to get back before the ball got played through to May.
It was schoolboy error stuff from Ramis & bearing in mind he got hauled off at half-time not something that seems to have impressed his new boss1 December 2014 at 4:04 pm #136403Absolutely.

Boyce wasn’t marking anyone as the ball had been played past him some time earlier, and he ambles into shot as their player is putting it into the goal.Ramis is at fault, but I find the complete lack of awareness or effort from anyone else just as bad.
1 December 2014 at 4:31 pm #136405Just watched their second goal again. I’ve seen those not given before! Bloody eagle-eyed linesman!

having watched the footage again, that’s very harsh on Boyce.
The Wednesday player puts the cross in & I wouldn’t expect Boyce to leave him to follow the ball in so he’ll have stayed with him. Watson then leaves his man to follow the ball meaning Boyce has 2 players to cover in that area. there’s then 2 seconds between the knockdown/Ramis & Watson coming out of position & May receiving the ball – I don’t think that there’s any way you can expect him to cover that. He may have shouted at Ramis & he may not have done (you can’t tell from that footage) but you can see him sprinting to try & cover but he slows/stops when the guy gets the ball coz at that point there’s nowt he can do
To me, there’s 4 Latics players involved in that bit of action (Barnett, Ramis, Watson & Boyce) & the only one I don’t think is at fault in any way is Boyce1 December 2014 at 5:40 pm #136409Just watched their second goal again. I’ve seen those not given before! Bloody eagle-eyed linesman!I didn’t think there was any way that the whole ball had crossed the line but there’s some footage on youtube which just shows that incident & pauses it just before McCann clears it & the linesman got it spot on.
Fair play to him coz he’d have had to be bang on with the line to call that & he didn’t have that long to get from the last defender to the goal line to make sure he was in position -
