Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has arrived back at Old Trafford half a stone lighter after his American boot camp experience to help him recover from an ankle injury.
that doesn’t necessarily mean that he’ll be match fit though
they can put him through all the intensive training & slim fast that they want but it don’t mean he’ll be able to last 90 minutes.
I think Fergie’ll name him on the bench
Yeah but have they sorted his head out !! I have noticed in the past that if you man mark him he fades the more the game goes on because it gets to him ! Thats when the red mist tends to decend as well !
If he doesn’t mark his comeback with a goal against us, I’ll openly and brazenly walk out of Old Trafford singing ‘Fields Of Anfield Road’ as we walk through Salford’s finest. *
Think this is the only season where I have actually thought that we will give them a game. In saying that I don’t think we’ll get a result, but I don’t think we’ll get a hiding either for once. Griff will you be having a few quid on your prediction?
Bit peeved it’s cost us £82 for 2 tickets, but I’ve kept this weekend clear of work specifically to go to Old Trafford, plus several pints. I’m not opening a debate now, but I really feel it might be the last chance to see us play there for a while, as we could well go down this season. (we might, we might not)
I’m not moaning about it, just stating it’s a possibility.
I remember in the 90’s, I used to dream of us going to places like United. I’ve not been for a season or two, as last time we went we were utter garbage, and the ‘carnival’ that Old Trafford can easily become was sickening. What I mean is, it just felt different than a football match. With all the day-trippers and mega-store bags, etc.
But this season, they’ve been off-par and the carnival atmosphere seems to have faded somewhat. I really feel we do have a chance…as long as we shape ourselves and don’t make cock ups and play rubbish. That said, if Rooney is coming back, it might give them a boost again and the ‘carnival’ will be in full flow. The ones who were calling him not fit to burn a few weeks back, will quickly forgive him, should he come back with a goal.
Personally, I hope Alcaraz or someone leathers him one on his ankle after 5 minutes, seeing him limp off. Then, we might have a chance. I just hope we play well. If we put a decent showing in, but get done 3-0 as Griff predicts, I can just about take that. Play rubbish and get battered, I can’t accept.
Whether Rooney plays or not, i fear his presence on the bench alone will give United a boost and make the likes of Berbatov try that bit harder to prove a point.
Although, we are long overdue a favourable result over United, so who knows.
My worry is that with Chelsea faltering Utd will have the smell of blood in their nostrils and we could be in for a tough afternoon.
Put into perspective, I’d sooner us have a tough afternoon at Manchester United, rather than Stockport County.
All those years of dreaming of these games……bloody hell!
And we go there on a ‘League Par’, rather than a cup game. It’s quite phenominal where Wigan Athletic have come from, isn’t it? Whilst United were winning their first Premiership title in 1993, we were relegated to the bottom tier. Put like that it’s like ‘Wow, what a transformation’. From the basement to the top flight, in 12 years. Any club in the land would snatch our hands off for that!
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney could make his comeback from an ankle injury against Wigan on Saturday.
The 25-year-old has not played since 16 October and has just returned from the United States where he underwent conditioning work to aid his recovery.
“I don’t think he’ll start,” United manager Sir Alex Ferguson told radio station Key103. “Maybe he will reach the bench.
“But he will certainly play on Wednesday against Rangers.”
Although he has not returned to full training, Rooney has done a sufficient amount of work to be considered for a spot on the bench for Saturday’s Premier League match.
