Overhead kicks are pot luck ! It could have gone anywhere and on this occasion it went in ! No big deal really but because it won a derby it gets talked about and the media big it up. Up until his goal he was mediocre as he has been most of the season !

That’s very true, Hugo tried one yesterday that went harmlesly over the bar….. would have been interesting to see if he would have got the same hype should it have gone in as Rooney – we’ll never now. :violin:

FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

Bit of trivia here: When they filmed that, Pelé got it spot on FIRST take.

Thing about Rooney is, he got it SPOT ON. He hit it bang on and it went exactly where he wanted it too. Got to give credit there, that was a really amazing goal. Fair play to the lad, whatever you think of him.

He scored one once before, when he was playing for Everton youth against United youth. Bobby Charlton was watching and remarked “Who’s that lad?” thinking ‘hmm, we’ll have him at United’. And he was told “you’ve no chance of snatching him!”

          Funny how things turn out.

Yes it was a great goal but you’d think he was the first person to ever score that type of goal. One of the papers I saw on Sunday asked was it the greatest goal ever seen at Old Trafford. Probably not !!!

For me it wasn’t even the best goal of the weekend. That was scored by a fat Leicester City player. :o

I personally think Rooney has scored better goals at Old Trafford.

I was at the ground when he scored the one against newcastle I think that was a better goal.

Don’t be saying things like that. They’ll be accusing you of being a Man U fan next.

I think the praise has been for a few reasons.

                  For:

                  1. It was INTENDED. He definitely meant to do it.

                  2. The way he executed it was spot on. Timing, etc.

                  3. The occasion. Manchester derby, big title game.

                  4. The accuracy. Had to laugh that you can see his head turning and watching it go exactly where it was intended.

I really think it was a PHENOMINAL strike. Not a fluke, or anything like that. He went for the spectacular, and by god did he have the quality to pull it off.

I think sometimes in this country, we don’t give credit where it is due. Honest to god, if someone scored a goal like that V Latics, I would have to stand up and applaud it.
I’m thinking now, and the nearest I can recall, I think, was when Andy Preece scored an aerobatic effort against us for Blackpool, in the Lancashire Cup Final, in 1995. A last minute equalizer it was. We lost on penalties. But his was more of a sideways midair volley. Straight into the top corner. Great strike.

                  Rooney’s goal…..unbelievable strike.

at that point did fabragas go running to the referee brandishing his imaginary card in an attempt to get the player booked.

probly i only saw it on match of the day and they are very bad when it comes to showing anything that doesn’t show the ‘big 4’ with sunshine sprouting out of their behinds
