Do people really want jewell back? From what i can remember he
had loads of fans( )calling for his head has he had no plan b
and he always s hi t it against the top teams!
vat 69 and his mates  calling for roberto,s head so
early into the season is laughable!
making a god out of him because he was a fans favourite in a past life,is just as laughable ,the man hasn’t a clue, and as i have stated in another thread i was calling for his head weeks ago, difference now other people are cottoning on to him quicker than opposition scouts.
jewell may have had no plan B, but the spanish one it seems doesnt even have a plan A.
If you put any personal gripe you have with me now, or have had in the past, to one side, and actually READ what I say elsewhere, I categorically state that nothing would make me happier than to see Roberto Martinez having the success he has stated that he really wants to achieve. I think the guy is a sound bloke, and that he’s such a nice guy, an absolute club LEGEND in every meaning of the sense.
But so was Kevin Ball at Sunderland. And there we have it. Just because he was a decent footballer for us in the lower echelons of the football league, doesn’t mean that he is going to return and be guaranteed to have success.
I have been worried all along, that he’ll return and it will all go sour. I wondered from day one, if he’d return and basically be Whelan’s puppet. I’m not sure if we can say that or not just yet, however give it a few weeks and we will have a good idea. (Post January)
I mention Jewell as an option to return, simply because I cannot think of many possible replacements, should a change be deemed necessary. And if that’s the case, it will need someone who is, dare I say, ‘hard-faced’, not bothered about offending a bunch of professional ‘attitudes’, and someone who will do whatever is necessary to sort out the mess. The problem is, perhaps we have already played this ‘trump card’ in the past, when we brought in Steve Bruce to steady the ship.
May I also add that for me to mention Paul Jewell is actually quite a big thing, because I was actually pleased he went when he did. But have we really moved on at all? No. We’ve gone backwards if anything.
And ask yourself this, are we worse now, as a team, than when Chris Hutchings was given his marching orders?
I know what I think.
Please don’t refer to it as “vat69 and his mates”, as it is FAR more widespread than just us few on here. I’ve had messages from people who are usually very ‘reasoned’ about things, and even they realise that we are in ‘S*it street, Arizona’ to coin a Mick McCarthy phrase. Please for gods sake, don’t let past memories of Roberto doing his matador celebration in the 3rd division cast a ‘rose-tinted’ haze upon things. He’s not being judged on that. He’s being judged on the present. And frankly, it’s not good enough.
Don’t try and put ‘spin’ on it. There’s already too much of that happening this season……
I actually dont think we are playing that badly this season as a whole! However what i do think is that we are lacking leadership on the pitch and a bit of grit!
There seems to be no fight, we lose a goal and whereas teams since Jewell took over would close up shop and fight for the first time since then when this happens our heads go down!
Now when it comes to the fight would it be cynical of me to think its because every player knows that if a bid for them comes in Whelan will sell hence having no loyalty to the club!
Anyway i honestly believe come January when Roberto has a better chance of getting the players he feels could work in the prem together we will push on and finish strongly!
You quite rightly mention January. I think that will be make or break time, both with regard to what players are brought in and what support Martinez gets from his chairman.
For once, I don’t think we can afford to mess about.
(contrary to what some people may think, I really DO want Roberto to do very well. Honestly.)

by heck lad i dont agree with you but i dont half admire your optimism.
the trouble with your hopes and thoughts, and it pains me to say this,is the position we will be in by january will hinder any attempts we have of attracting anyone.

Yeah, good point, that.
Only players we’ll attract will be cast-offs and Championship players.
Theres a lot of teams in a worse posistion than us and a lot worse of financially!
Vat i think we will see some real talent coming into the club in January but i will say dont judge the money spent judge the quality!
I would like to see us chase a few players on the edge of the world cup squads such as: Owen (we could guarantee him first team to the end of the season), Bentley (same as owen), Heskey, Cisse, Chimbonda (would we have him back???), Toni etc!

you had to spoil the admiration i had for you and your optimism by descending into down right lunacy.

vat can you please stop agreeing with me,people will start saying i’m the support act at one of your ‘gigs’ ;)
Whats so unrealistic in those names if we offer guaranteed first team? Im pretty sure that those millionire footballers would drop there wages for a chance to get in the world cup squad! Bar Chimbonda!
And we could get them all on loans i believe!
Apart from them id be happy with Jackson martinez and others!
