I’m a bit confused by Rosler’s press conference. He said that he wants to play like Martinez but also intends to adopt a 4-3-3. He also said he likes the look of McClean and McManaman.
As far as I can see, you can’t square these things. You can’t play wing backs, like Martinez, with a back four. And you wouldn’t play two wingers with two wing backs.
So what does everyone think his first team will look like? I’m guessing something like:
Carson
Boyce Barnett Ramis Perch
Watson McArthur Gomez
McManaman Holt Powell
11 December 2013 at 4:48 pm #124694That seems a reasonable choice. I’m sure that he can get the players to produce more than Coyle could.
He seems to be giving the Championship game against Bolton priority, so the Maribor team will be different.
The Championship race is very close, so every game matters. There is little opportunity to experiment until the MK Dons game. And I’m sure that we’d all like a good cup run.

Fairdos that but I would swap Shotton for Boyce at the back with Rogne as back-up on the bench. and would swap beausajour for watson in midfield for his industry and energy – i like gomez in the middle as he can be creative.

11 December 2013 at 9:44 pm #124708Well as Holt is apparently still in the UK “getting Fitter/Fatter* it’s back to the drawing board chaps !!
* = delete as appropriate.
11 December 2013 at 9:54 pm #124709Hasn’t our recent run of form and defensive lapses coincided with Ramis’s return? I’d start with Rogne.
11 December 2013 at 10:47 pm #124714What about the broader issue of fitting two wingers and wing backs into a 4-3-3?
11 December 2013 at 11:07 pm #124715When Bob first came to us he played 4-3-3 with 2 wingers cutting in off the wing to support the main striker. No wing backs to be seen.
11 December 2013 at 11:10 pm #124716A back four is an alternative to a back three plus wingbacks.
But Martinez’ style is to keep possession. That can be applied whichever formation is adopted.

Hmm I bet you’d rather watch my team that some of the dross lineups coyle came up with.
I may compromise and put perch in at lb and Gomez is pushing Powell for a place if he doesn’t cut out the primadonna act.

I would indeed, and I’m glad somebody else agrees with me about Powell
12 December 2013 at 1:53 am #124727Graham barrow may well have been thinking the same. Didnt he shepherd hook him twice?
Still our best player though! -
