From the ground walk over the duggie bridge to the carpark access road, past B&Q turn left onto Wallgate and straight up to the centre of Wigan, a little collecting and stuff in the arcades, then carry on down past BHS and turn Right into Crompton street down the side of the Grand Arcade carpark entrance, past Wigan Little Theatre to the lights at Hardybutts.
Turn left and up through Scholes and Whelley, permission to lambast and verbally abuse any chubsters spotted while running the gauntlet here, be prepared for incoming flack though, once past the ‘danger zone’ we should only encounter minimal problems as they rarely venture past Greenhalgh’s bakers at Whelley shops, apart from the much rarer noblot sub species chubster, but these should be still asleep in their caves or consuming vast amount of their staple diet, Carr’s pasties.
At the traffic lights turn right onto Cale lane and proceed to Rose Leisure Nightspot (new posh name for New Springs Legion) where everyones efforts will be rewarded with a Pie and Cup of Steaming hot Heinz Tomato soup(only the best for you lot).
You can also consume copious amounts of alcohol here if you wish as the Rose Leisure’s managment are kindly opening the bars despite being advised that Latics fans cant drink alot and it will be hardly worth their while.
Don’t dally getting here as there are limited number of pies and the walk organisers have been warned half the resident single mothers of Marsh Green and Worsley Hall are turning up, as all the saturday production from Greggs the bakers have been bought up for the event, depriving little Brittany and Cruz of their weekly savoury treat. There is also a St Johns Ambulance treatment room set up here in case of minor injuries, blisters or even Brittany and Cruz’s dripping left nostril. From Rose Leisure, if you can still walk, proceed back to Wigan Road and turn right up to Aspull, at the fingerpost turn right onto Bolton Road/Dickinson Lane until the A6 tee junction, turn left here, the police and hiways dept have asked that we do not cross the A6 here but carry on to just past the roundabout and cross there.
We have then 2 motorway slip roads to negotiate, it has been requested, again by the authorities, that we dont walk across on-masse and give priority to traffic, there will be marshalls but we just need to exercise a little common sense.
The target is then in front of you, the Reebok, permission is again granted to make as much noise as possible from this point, hopefully Roberto and his squad can give us the same effort we know all the walkers are putting in and come away with a much needed 3 points and 1000s of quid for little Emma.
One last thing to everyone doing the walk bring plenty of pound coins as you will be accosted all along the route by nubile young ladies scantily dressed(weather permitting)selling raffle tickets and football cards with some great prizes.
9 February 2012 at 1:38 pm #80953could we not just go straight on at the fingerpost, or are we obliged to turn right?

9 February 2012 at 3:57 pm #80960Moorgate pub by any chance then Poacher at Scott lane ends, Ramada Jarvis hotel and Brinsop?
Hare and Hounds shut down and that just leaves Gerrard Arms and Royal Oak after the Queens Head at the finger post, RO is just an eating house and don’t cater for casual boozers.
Don’t forget this is a charity walk not a pub crawl. ;)
