After a pre-season that has been nothing more than a chance for Calamity to look at players play in various positions rather than to gel some kind of a side together I think now it will be a season where gaining enough points for safety will be the main priority. We started pre season with a totally different squad than now and players are so desperate for match practice. From next Saturday gill Christmas we cannot expect anything else but swapping and changing styles of play, players and formations and maybe if Calamity has not moved far from the bottom three we could quite possibly be looking at yet another manager. Who knows we may fly up the league but Calamity will have an hard task with a new outfit all together.

      “Calamity” x 3 ??

      Grow up.

So you’ve wrote the season off before a ball has even been kicked?

No Egg just very cautious about expecting too much from a squad that is virtually new. What I am meaning is that a first choice consistent starting eleven will be a while off and a consistent starting eleven is what we will need to make positives strides in the right direction. Our squad as a squad have had so little match practice together and will need to get used to each other. I reckon for the number in the squad five friendlies hasnt been enough so the first few weeks will be about experimenting and changing, in a sort of pre season after the season has started. So Egg not written off but just cautious.

To be fair though Garswood, When he was a player he was ‘Calamity Caldwell’ as he was piss poor as a CB but i think he has the right tools to make it as a manager. He has (seemingly) got all the right bases covered to be a successful one. Crap as a player, shouts a lot and Scottish. That’s all you need these days apparently. I do though, however think he has a good brain but reading the forums it seems as though he is following the ‘Martinez Style’ of passing it about a lot with no substance. Time will tell though i suppose and i haven’t seem them play yet so i can’t pass judgement for now.

When you say “piss poor as a CB”? are we referring to former Player of The Year & Club Captain Gary Caldwell? The guy with 50+ caps for his country and numerous domestic medals to his name??

Maybe you are judging him on his final two injury ravaged years as a player?

I prefer to remember him as a player instrumental in our great escape. Victories over Liverpool, Arsenal and United. Great memories that probably won’t be repeated.

But you are free to judge him on his twilight years if you like. :(

No Murph, i was judging his playing career on the basis that he was a poo CB from day 1. 50 odd caps for his country. True but let’s be honest, if my Nan was Scottish she would have got about 10 caps too. As i stated though, i haven’t seen them play yet and i really do believe he has the attributes to succeed as a manager but if he has just adopted the ‘Martinez style’ then it will be another season of mediocre doom and gloom i’m afraid. To be honest though, signing players like Jacobs and Francisco Junior i very much doubt it’s all out defend stuff. Will Grigg is proven at this level so the goals are there if the service is correct. Must admit though i was extremely disappointed to see Tav and Wag go. I can understand Perch, Delort and Rieira etc but they weren’t battlers like Waghorhn and Tav were plus Tavernier was proven at this level. Very short sighted in my opinion. I predict that Tavernier will have a couple of storming years at Rangers then find himself back in the Premier League. I am very seldom wrong with my predictions and i don’t think i will be wrong on this occasion either.

They were excellent. Will need to be even better to beat Leeds though. Could cost them their Super League place too.
