Has been voted through, 2.5m for saleries etc (I think of players over 21). So u can have 24 players on 2k per week In league one. There rules about existing contracts and time to adjust, so we will have to trim out a fair whack. Interesting thought that the salaries of young lads don’t count, so getting rid of them is only about money in to pay the creditors and not the forward cap
7 August 2020 at 3:43 pm #188604I’ve gone over this in my head and I can’t figure out if it’s a good or a bad thing for us.
More importantly, it’s not half gone quite on the new owner front. You would have thought that, considering how long we’ve been in admin and now we know were taking the drop that they would have worked it out its value in League One and the Championship,
Tonight Mathew, I’m going to be the next owner of Wigan Athletic !!
7 August 2020 at 5:09 pm #188605Folk like Will Grigg, who is on significantly more than 2K a week, will be getting a big dose of reality next time his contract is up for renewal, when he gets offered about 20% of his current wage. And even at that level, its too bloody much!
7 August 2020 at 5:24 pm #188606Do relegated clubs get an exemption? Dropping your salary to 2.5m is going to take some doing.
All it’s done in rugby is drag the big clubs down to the level of the shit clubs

Again…….scored goals at every club in that league that he has played for except one. I wonder what the problem could be??

The PFA have served a notice of arbitration on the EFL and say the have done it illegally. Theres a surprise, the corruption continues. Playing in front of a five-figure crowd isn’t his thing I guess. Here’s hoping that playing in front of empty seats will re-ignite his goalscoring prowess.
7 August 2020 at 7:03 pm #188611Seemed to do ok when he played in front of 5 figures against the then all conquering English champions.
PS – More empty seats at the SOL than the DW at that level 👍🏻
8 August 2020 at 10:25 pm #188628The free-market/capitalist in me is generally against salary caps – I would much prefer that ALL revenues are shared 50-50 (gate receipts/sponsorship/local media/merchandise sales – should have to give half to the league to split among all teams).
That said, a salary cap should make the team more attractive to a potential buyer, as it brings more cost certainty. The ongoing uncertainty of covid & gate receipts is obviously still a huge issue/hindrance; but, the optimist in me wonders if a smart potential owner might see this as a moment in time where that uncertainty is pushing the purchase price lower than normal, making this the time to strike with more potential upside than normal (or at least less of a money hole than sports teams usually are).
11 August 2020 at 7:37 am #188691Just makes the championship a closed shop. The sides going up will get hammered and come back down. They will split the top two leagues soon.
I’m finished with it all if im honest. Its noy football anymore, its all about the moneyy. They dont care about us.
