Don’t know, didn’t bother in the end. I was only going to go because I couldn’t be arsed (see what I’m doing here?) carrying 5 copies of the book up to the top of the street to get my lift ;)
Probably a good idea – don’t want them selling out tonight before JamesC gets there tomorrow ;)
Are you seriously telling me that the huge gaps at the ends of the Boston Stand (as well as plenty throughout), a West Stand that is only populated in the centre, and a half-full (at best) South Stand comes to 14500?

17K tops today.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
As a turncoat and judus that you are Mutty you should also knoe that our stadium yes ours owned by the one and only David Whealen was officially 77% full today alas your cup game was 33% full
Who’s this Whealen fella? I thought it was owned by David Whelan?
Here’s some more FACTS for you:
1. 17505 is 35.72% of the capacity (49,000).
2. 8199 is 32.57% of the capacity (25,168).
3. Of that 17505, over 17,000 were home supporters. The visitors brought less than 300. As there are 46,000 seats available for home supporters, the home support was just over 37%.
4. Of that 8199, approx 3,000 were from Bournemouth. The home support managed to fill approx 25% of their 20,000 seats.
5. Your stadium was “officially” 77% full yesterday thanks to 5,000+ visiting supporters filling 100% of their allocation. And of course adding on all those ST holders and freebie’s who didnt show up.
Only non-Wigan Athletic supporters actually give a flying about crowds. Have you not realised that yet.
Like I said on the loads of the thousands of threads on this subject, if I trawl through WRLFC and in your case SAFC, I will find plenty of examples of similar or worse crowds.
LOTP has already been batted away, please don’t make me waste my life by dragging FACTS up from your tin pot adopted club’s archive. An easy one would be the 13,000 that was on against Wigan (with 2,000 Latics) in the late 80’s – this was in a ground that had boasted a 75,000 record crowd. I don’t need a calculator to work out that %.
If you can’t find anything other than crowds to slate our incredible club, then we must be doing a lot right.
All a bit strange a team placed geographically like Sunderland (with only one other team in the top league anywhere near them) criticising our crowds! On the example cited you could argue Bolton given their history are a much bigger side and much more attractive than bloody Bournemouth. Still 35% is a superb turn out for such a massive club with a 49000 capacity stadium. A better comparison may be the time you played Colchester a couple of years ago and got 13,500 on. 27% by my reckoning. Hardly impressive for a club as big as yours!
I wouldn’t bother with all this crowd comparison nonsense MD. Your fans have always been as fickle as anyones. You lose 10 to 15k every time you go down. On the other hand we have one of the largest expanding fan bases in the country. As Bobby said last year:
”We have trebled our crowds but never lost our family feel. If i am not wrong we have 11,000 season ticket holders, which is a seventh of Wigan’s population. If other football clubs had that ratio, their grounds would not be big enough. From the inside, we know that where we were 10 years ago to where we are now”
Youre just a big fish in a small pond. Why has your ‘massive club’ not won a major trophy for 40 years?

Where is the bloody like button!!!!!
Underneath, where it says “Thank You” ;)
I have already done that, but the bloody thumbs up isnt big enough, i wish everybody would just fuck off about our crowds, we have proved this for the past 10 seasons when we have been punching above all the so called big clubs, they dont bloody matter.

Apart from 35 yrs WAFC or whatever his name is – see post above mine. Oh, and Rodders/SDW. He likes to talk about crowds when it suits.

And the capacity of the ground in the late 80s had been cut to around 20,000. I was there too that day sat in the old clock stand amongst the 13,974 (almost 70% full) to see a 4-1 win for my tin pot adopted club in their one and only season in the 3rd tier. I was also on the mudbank for the infamous sliding competition for the return game when 4,000 Sunderland fans packed into Springfield Park.
Call me a dreamer but if we got relegated I don’t think there would be a disastrous drop in our crowds.
The tickets are more than reasonably priced for League one never mind the Championship and if we went down this season I am of the belief Martinez would stay with us.
All the players contracts would reduce in line with the relegation cut clauses I am led to believe that they all have (something to do with why we always seem to stay up?) and if anyone did want to leave due to relegation we would be able to command a decent fee for them.
I would fancy our chances at coming up again first time of asking any way.
It would depend on how the team were doing I guess ! If we go down and say find ourselves mid table after first 10 games or so then expect crowds of roughly 9000. If we are up there in the promotion spots then expect about 11000. If we struggle then I would estimate crowds around the 7000-8000 mark. Pretty much the same as our dalliance with The Championship several years ago !

My last comment:
According to your tin pot club’s own history, the capacity was only reduced in the mid nineties, mainly due to the Hilsborough tragedy the ground was just missing a few tens of thousands of ‘true supporters’ in the 80’s…. I too was there, with my two Geordie cousins and the ground was almost deserted – except the away end.
I won’t waste my time going trawling through the records to stuff you crowd issue well and truly up where the sun doesn’t shine, I really have no time for wannabe horrible mackems.
