First time this season I have watched us on telly and thought we were quite good, especially in the first half. I have noticed some other stuff though which I probably wouldn’t have seen watching at the ground. Just wondered what your views are in regards to the following:
Our defence – quite unorganised and it looks a difficult task for us to work the offside system. We play too far up the pitch and keep getting caught out by balls over the top. Defenders (mainly Mario) keep getting caught out of position. I think when Sharner had to replace Boycey, we looked stronger at the back.
N’Zogbia – OK, I am going to get some stick here but I think that Bob is right to play him on the right of the pitch. Charles is a beltin’ player but is very left footed…e.g. he cant use his right. Huth basically keeps N’Zogbia out of the game by moving him into touch very easily. At least when he is on the right, he cuts in from the left and has a go at goal which he did towards the end of the match.
Sharner – Man of the Match…great performance, should have had a penalty in the first half. The commentator said that Sharner and the ref have some history….I cant remember anything about that.
Hugo – Should start up front…nuff said. Also should practice how to take a penalty!
Gomez – played really well despite being hacked down at every opportunity…I am amazed he walked off the pitch. I don’t think his position is behind the centre forward but looked lively on the wing and not being central to play.
Diame – Class….but I would like to see him further up the pitch, he certainly has the skill.
Koumas – I seen him on the pitch about twice…..
Maynor – Good free kick but god awful defending, He should have defended better against their 2nd goal.
Kirkland – as above
Stoke – god awful dirty team, how some of their players stayed on the pitch(mainly Diao and the other guy Shawcross/Whitehead) is amazing. As soon as we got the ball down on the deck in their half, the tackles were flying in, the one against Mario was terrible.
