So, now MK Dons are not going to the Championship, is he (and maybe some others from their squad) a potential “target” for us this summer? From what I’ve seen, and it seems others in the Championship are looking at him, he could step up to the Championship and give some added depth to our squad and give competition to Power for dead ball situations.

      Other thoughts?

Right now I couldn’t care less. That end of season has left me football exhausted so f##k knows how LR and the players feel.

Thing is any business we do will need to be done sharpish as we start back on the 20th July

I’ve a feeling LR will give most of the squad a crack at the championship. Weather their all up to it is another matter.

That would be so wrong mate, no point waiting until January to sign players when we are in the shit then relying on the new signings to pull us out of it.

Start the new season with the new signings, starting line ups up for grabs and gets everyone fighting for those places and a nice healthy squad, i just hope Talal gets the cheque book out, we’ll need it.

According to the Wigan press we’re already looking at signings.

How many of Talal’s pens will we see?

At least 5 or 6 mate, like i said we’ll need them, a fight for places is a good thing keeps the players on their toes. :good:

Sorry but the current squad as it stands will not be good enough for the Championship. The Championship is another level altogether and we need at least 6incoming.
My concern is with new coming in we only have 2 players out of contract so unless players kindly leave we might struggle (loaning out to make room been the answer).

The Charlie Wyke saga will need to be sorted asap whether he’s going to make a start back otherwise we will need to bring in a main man up front.

But like I said, this squad is no were near good enough to hold its own in the championship. We won the League at the end simply because no one was good enough to take advantage of our poor end of season form.
We won 5 in our last 13 games. For me we desperately need wide players natural wingers. Wyke and Magennis are NOT hold up ling ball target men. These 2 thrive on balls whipped in.
Personally I would move Pearce up overlapping with McClean because some of the crosses he puts in are Prem quality band any forward would be over the moon seeing balls coming in with quality.

6 new players seems to be a common theory. I’d like to see both full back positions strengthened as to me that was a major weakness last season.

Would anyone think about another goalkeeper? Just to keep Ben on his toes.

Like I said it’s a whole different scenario with some clubs (likes of Stoke) with an endless pit of cash then Prem clubs coming done with money who can afford to retain players for at least one season.

I’ve not a clue who but with the right recruitment we should be OK. It’s not an impossible League Luton have proved that with the lowest budget in the Championship.

But for me wide players are a must with the likes of Lang Keane Magennis Wyke all screaming for a good ball in. Move Pearce up stick McClean behind but overlap like Boyce use to do. McCleans legs are not getting any younger so for me Pearce in front is a brilliant option.

Those balls in at Pompey ?, no one can defend them. I can’t think of anyone for a good few years at Latics who on his day can cross like Perce does.
Not only that he can get over the half way line and hit them early catch teams out.
We need to utilise that and stop fooking hitting long balls to the big guy. Surely Richardson can see that!!!!

With the greatest respect, Wigan aren’t going to be competing with Stoke, Sheff Utd/Forest, Middlesborough, Watford, Norwich and Leeds/Burnley/Everton – they’ll all be fighting for top 2 or top 6 along with a host of other clubs.

Look at Luton as an example of gradual improvement. Get promoted from L1, survive on last day, improve slightly to mid-table, then get 6th place. All done on low income and low wages. No big spends, no big debts. Just good organisation on and off the pitch.

4th bottom next season is success for any promoted club.

With all respect mutty, that’s exactly what we we’re doing under Paul Cook before we were stabbed in the back by the criminals (I include the efl in that).

It did cause a lot of consternation on this site at times, myself included at times, but I think Leam will have a similar realistic plan.

How can he fail when he has us for guidance? :good:

4th from bottom ?, Nothing like reaching for the stars. Mid table would be a success . Preston seem to do it comfortably on a shoe string budget.
