Having sat at the end of a row today, just a few feet from the Southampton fans, I fully understand this entirely deserved nickname that Pompey give them.
Admittedly, we have more than a few scrotes of our own, but that lot are amongst the worst I’ve ever met (excluding Arsenal of course).
Seemed like the usual hostile home crowd to me. Made it worse for them when Little Wigsn pissed on their party of course.
Well apologies if any of you had any problems with some of our fans. Like most clubs we’ve got some prats but I think most of us are OK. Please don’t lump us in with Pompey though! That lot are far, far worse – unless you reserve a special place in your heart for inbred, bell ringing, tattoo ridden, tax dodging clubs with a penchant for ripping off charities that is.
Anyway, just wanted to say congratulations on your win yesterday. I didn’t think there was much between the two teams but fair play, we got caught on a couple of occasions by prem quality and we’ll need to get used to that. We can play better and hopefully we do but on the day I don’t think many of us would begrudge your win.
Also wanted to say that the couple of your fans I met and gave directions back to the train station to were thoroughly decent fans and nice people – a credit to Wigan. Respect :)
I guess we’re both similar size clubs and have faced the same difficulties so there’s a lot to like about both our clubs. Plus we’ve both got good managers. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Outside the ground before the game quite a few of your supporters we’re wishing us well. Which I thought a bit strange :)
Yes – there were imbeciles near the boundaries – but then again that’s why they get seats there, isn’t it?
And I agree – Pompey fans are a lot lot worse. Particularly the guy with the bell :S

I don’t normally ever post on the night of a game. Far more objective the next day. I think I just let one or two of your muppets wind me up. I should know better at my age.
I’ve just watched the Football First highlights and you came a lot closer to getting something than the 2-0 scoreline suggests. Some of our fans are getting carried away with our performance. I hope they are right, but suspect we will have a lot more games like yesterday that don’t go our way.

Well hopefully our spell in the wilderness has given us a bit of humility and besides any team that stays in the top flight for as long as you have deserve a bit of respect. We did it for 27 years and most of that was relegation escaping seasons – we didn’t get much media appreciation either so it’s important we as fans at least recognise that achievement.
Anyway, if the worst happens and you do get relegated – it’s not the end of the world. I’ve honestly enjoyed the last 3 seasons and it’s been great fun. I’m not sure the hype, the uncompetitive league, the huge money, the glory hunting fans that we’ll experience this season will quite match our last few seasons. I know I’m supposed to be desperate to stay up but honestly? I’m not that fussed.
Oh and yep the bloke with the bell? That’s an evolutionary step backwards….

No problem mate, the people you’d have been sat near are there for a reason – that’s to wind you up and remind you how good the south is ;) It’s just not fair to rain on our parade and go and win, did you not read the script? We scored twice at Man Citeh FFS! We should be running away with this league by now…..

I’m also from the South, live in Southampton and have supported Latics since 78, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!!
