To be controvesial i reckon we should play a hybrid team like we did at Huddersfield.
I am also in 2 minds as to whether i want Latics to win. Of course I would love to be in the FA cup final but!
If we win, we then have to play Man City mid week, then we go to West Ham at the weekend, then we get a week off before spurs at home, another week and west brom away – then 4 days before the final a critical game at home againts Swansea, then the final, then mid week a game against Arsenal at the Emirates before the final game with villa.
we just dont have the luxury of the size of squad we need for such a critical period – remeber how tired they looked at Fulhum last year?
I would only change my mind if we beat spurs and west Brom
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has admitted he would prefer Premier League survival to FA Cup glory, saying: “Staying up is more important than winning the semi-final. No question about that. I have promised the players a holiday in Barbados not for winning the FA Cup but for staying up.”
What are Martinez’s objectives in the next three games? Perhaps;
win at Wembley
avoid damage to the goal difference at Manchester City
gain points at West Ham
It’s asking a lot for the same eleven to succeed in all three games. Martinez could use his whole squad, and spread his resources over the three games.
I’d like to see a full strength team at West Ham to win points. I’m happy for McManaman and Gomez – and perhaps Caldwell or Golobart – to start at Wembley. I’m open to discussion on the City game.
Let’s see how they get on. If Wigan do reach the FA Cup Final, they will face a similarly demanding – but probably crucial – last week to the season. The next ten days could be a rehearsal.
And Watson has started playing so Martinez should soon be able to add him to the first team squad.
I think its a sad reflection on modern day football that survival is more important than cup glory. Yes i can understand the reasons why. But as a kid watching latics in the lower divisions especially when we played leeds in the quarters, i could only dream that & to quote the classic 1987 FA cup song “we are the latics:”

Does anyone have a copy of this they could stick on youtube?
