Yeah have to agree, I always wanted for him to do well I mean, who wouldn’t.
I’m sure most of those players weren’t he’s picks and those he wanted he was told nope, can’t afford.

Sad really it didn’t work out for him but the one thing I never got my head round was his subs. Take for instance against Reading:-

Just before our goal it was clear we needed changes. Adeeko was well off the pace and starting to get sloppy, Sibbicks legs were giving and he gave a few balls away he looked cooked but Dale ?, for me he was very very poor to the point that he never made one attempted to go past anyone and won nothing off the ball.

Now that’s not just my opinion that was the thought of a good few of us.

So there was 2 or 3 candidates there that could have easily been subbed.

So what did Maloney do ?
Well he decides to take off two of our better players in J.Smith (our best attacking option at the time) and Darcy who again wasn’t playing too bad, not brilliant but there was others who should have gone first.

          6 minutes later we conceded,

Maloney had this obsession with “resting players”. I fully understand Tuesday Saturday every week takes its toll but why not leave Darcy and J.Smith on then on Tuesday at Mansfield rest them (bench) and bring in Rankine and S.Smith. surely they can play one 90 minute game.

By making subs and the wrong ones for me left Adeeko Sibbick Dale on the pitch when they should have gone off before J.Smith & Darcy.

Did it cost us the game?, I know one thing it didn’t help. So rather than say J.Smith doing a 2 X 60mins shift per week just do 90mins + bench on a Tuesday.

It seemed to me sports science (Max Rodgers who’s only young) took over and the iPad told them who should come off and stay on but the iPad doesn’t tell the manager who’s missing tackles or scared of taking a man on or sloppy passes.

Sports science can be a wonderful thing but it has to run along side with your footballing brain and instinct, it should not govern the team selection.

I wish Maloney all the best in the future and I hope he gets better backing in his next job.

Me personally I wouldn’t panic at this crucial stage of the season. A new manager will need time to assess and bed in so it can work for and against.

            If you asked me
Glenn Whelan till the summer as temp. He might not have the managerial experience but right now there’s no building job going on it’s about simply getting over the line and staying up then in the summer weigh the whole job up.

Any new manager coming in will want to know the bigger picture for next season and as an owner Danson cannot 10000% guarantee L1 football so would you ?.

Glenn Whelan knows football 610 game 90 odd internationals 276 Prem appearances I’m sure he knows how to run a changing room.
Right now it’s all about results, nothing fancy nothing complicated straight forward results. He knows who’s who and who’d be up for it and who doesn’t give a sh*t.

Glenn Whelan and let him bring an assistant in till the end of the season I’m sure he knows one or two up for the challenge and if he does well who knows he might shock one or two of us

Sad for me cos I really wanted him to succeed. Unfortunately he has at times not helped his cause with some odd team selections, substitutions (Saturday was an example) and definitely some of our recruitment. The last one not down to him alone.I have to agree to some way with McLeans post and I do believe like every other supporter he had his pants pulled down by the hierarchy concerning squad investment. But like Mclean,Whatmough, Keane etc putting their financial security 1st the owner has done the same. The club is bigger and more important than 1 individual and as much as it wasn’t a pleasant thing to have to do unfortunately it was the right decision. Like us all I thank Shaun for everything he did selflessly for the club, players and supporters under impossible circumstances and wish him every success on whatever he does in the future. As for a replacement…….Warne maybe, certainly has a decent lead track record even if allegedly style not his 1st priority. Other than that…not a clue.

I’m not so sure on Warne he’s a bit too Paul Cook’ish preferring older experienced players over the younger lads which come with a price tag and right now our squads the polar opposite of his preferred type of player.

There’s talk of Ryan Lowe but someone pointed out to me he’s walked away from his last 2 jobs so I’m not so sure our pressure cooker penniless clubs is the right suit for him.

Leighton Baines poss,? I’ve heard good things about him and his coaching methods plus he’ll have the respect of the players.
At least Danson acted that’s the main thing regardless of who’s the problem lies with the owner, manager or players.
It’s like trying to attract a 5* Michelin chef to work in a Burger king.
As someone worded far better than me:-

“Danson wants champagne football on a lemonade budget”

Very very rare so clubs ever pull that off paying nothing and gaining success and if they do it rarely last.

Let’s hope whoever takes over grabs the bull by it’s testies, rattles them hard and gets enough points to get us over the line

Trouble is Ryan Lowe has a reputation for a similar type of football as SM. On my way home from games I generally listen to Radio Lancashire and have a chuckle at the Nob End fans complaining about the boring style of football that he instilled into the team whilst he was in charge.
Sounds like frying pan to fire, to me

Let’s hope that if its Lowe he gets the financial backing of the owner.

I’m very confident in saying that, Maloney was promised funds once the big earners left and from any player sales,

Both Danson defaulted on both accounts

Out the blue that one as he seemed to have bedded in with inconsistent results but always pulling out a rabbit out of the hat when it was needed.
Maybe things occurred that we will never know about after the game but here we go again.
I didn’t think relegation was possible with Shaun but rather more concerned now as we all know how disastrous past mid season appointments have been in the past.
Have a feeling Shaun will pop up somewhere again in the future and and like others thank him for his huge involvement in saving the club in 2023 and showing huge loyalty during one of the most difficult periods in the clubs history.
My overriding memory of him is when he showed genuine emotion when some young supporters presented him with a suprise gift , a decent and in many respects a humble man which sadly was probably his undoing in the harsh world of football management.

It is sad and I know I regular had a pop but I use to also say I truly hope he gets it right.
The owner clearly let him down but sometimes his slow from the back and strange subs made me think, is this guy winging it or what ?.

I thought Max Rodgers was abit too young to be an assistant. Shifted up from coach to assistant with little experience himself was a tab jobs for the boys.

                        But anyway:
“The King is dead, long live the King !” whoever takes over the job over better have balls of steel and a Pepe style of management or L2 here we come

Nobody wanted him to not be successful, but he didn’t learn from his own mistakes. Over 2 years in the job and still making the same errors.

Wish him all the best in the future.

Who do I want to replace him? I think Ryan Lowe will do a good job. At the end of the day though, it’s who interviews best for it. If by any chance that ends up being Evatt…which would be a highly controversial appointment, I’ll be honest, I’ll back him. It would be a big shock though but maybe having a bit of a ‘shithouse’ type in charge wouldn’t be so bad. We’ve just had a quiet ‘Cliff Richard’ type in charge. I like a manager who kicks buckets. I’m surprised Mick McCarthy hasn’t been linked.

Don’t want any novices, this job isn’t for learners. No way. Needs someone who has already been managing.

For me Danson and Maloney were both to blame.
Danson for lack of financial support to Maloney even after we’d sold £7million pounds worth of players

                            And

Maloney for the style of play that at times made you turn your head like an Alsatian or fall asleep.

One of them simply had to go and we all know the winner of that one.

It’s sad but it’s the nature of the beast and we thank him and move on.

Let’s get this season out the way and remain in L1 and hopefully Dansons crew find the right guy.

For me I’d have Paul Warne, he just has that experience edge over Lowe but we’ll see
