Just been on SSN that we are in talks with Shaun maloney. Now a few years ago he was a half decent player but can’t get in in front of samaras. Can’t see him making much of an impact but you never know!
30 August 2011 at 7:54 pm #70805My Scottish colleagues tell me that he was seen as a bright star in the making and when Martin O’Neil took over at Villa, he took him on loan but he failed to make any impact. Since going back to Celtic he has done nothing.
So why are we interested?
30 August 2011 at 7:58 pm #70806Just read he was given the Celtic captaincy when Scott Brown was injured last season. So he’s not quite over the hill or a “has been” yet.
At the age 28 to 30 in football terms, you are deemed as at the peak of your career. Maloney is 28.Last season Samras 22 league games – 3 goals, Maloney 21 league games – 5 goals.
Both him and Samras have played 4 games each this season for Celtic, so were do you get the idea he can’t get in front of Samras?
Give the boy a chance.

Big Daves been on said if they agree a fee today looking at roughley 1mil. He will come down tomorow for a chat. I remember him being decent at Villa. Thought he was a midfielder though?
30 August 2011 at 8:58 pm #70813It would be unfair to judge the lad on his time in the Premiership playing “the English way”, so he struggled. Same way he is doing at Celtic playing their way.
Wigan play totally different and depend on the ability of the individual. He could do just fine here.

“As a Villa fan speaking to Wigan, this is a great signing for you at 1m. We all liked the pint-sized attacker. His problem at Villa wasn’t that he was not cut out for the premier league, but that MON bought a player he could not fit into his team. He needed to be out on the left side, but our best player Ashley Young had that position locked down. For 1m he’s a bargain and will serve you well. Sign him up.”
Just interesting to get a Villa fans view on him. Taken of the sky sports forum and there was another fan saying the same.
31 August 2011 at 11:32 am #70853Samaras is pants and on his way to Sunderland I believe.
As for Maloney, he will keep our injury table warm most of the season. Injury prone and pretty hot headed.
Another short player…. Not wanting to be heightest at all, but why all the short men and no huge scandanavian centre back?
