Not that bad a challenge imo. Totally 50/50 and Ramsey’s leg was already planted at an awkward angle and so any contact would be have been tragic. Nowhere near as bad as the Roy Keane one on Haaland, the one on Eduardo or the Bouazahoun one that Garswood posted.

Or what could of happened to McCarthy on Saturday
2 March 2010 at 2:02 am #24998Or what could of happened to McCarthy on SaturdayIndeed. Shocking challenge.
2 March 2010 at 2:39 am #24999Neither challenges were ‘shocking’ at all.
Shawcross had the right to go for that ball, it was a 50/50 he was abit slower and Ramsey has had some shit luck there.
2 March 2010 at 12:28 pm #25018“S you think Ramsay deserved to have his leg snapped because he was the quicker player? Just because Ramsay was quicker doesn’t mean Shawcross had the right to snap him… He shouldn’t have gone in like he did unless he was 100% sure he was going to get the ball.”
Hold on a second, where on earth did I put that Ramsay deserved to have his leg snapped because he was the quicker player?????
Or for that matter where I said that Ramsay had the right to “snap him” coz Ramsay was quicker???If you ban tackling unless the tackler is 100% certain that he is going to get the ball then you are going to create a very tame & tepid game. Football is & always has been a contact sport where players have to make split second decisions all the time.
Ramsay couldn’t have been 100% certain that he was going to get the ball, likewise with Shawcross.
Both players would have thought “I can get that” & gone for it. One got there fractionally before the other & there was a foul. Its what happens all over the pitch, all game but because in this instance a player broke his leg there’s all this moral hang wringing $h!te & its doing my head in. I hope Ramsay recovers & has a long career but all this “we need to stamp it out of our game” is (IMO) way off the mark.
Shawcross didn’t go in shin high, both feet off the ground, studs up but made a legitimate attempt to get the ball, the speed of Ramsay in that split second, the apparent buckling of Ramsay’s ankle before the challenge & then the challenge itself all combined in a complete freak accident to create what happened2 March 2010 at 1:25 pm #25026I agree with Tyldesley, these injuries unfortunate though they are happen all the time and have happened for years at all levels of the game. I remember Neil Davids and Andy Ainscow ( twice ) suffering compound fractures
Trouble is now is that players are assets worth millions of pounds, Sky show replay after replay, radio phone ins and the media whip these things up into a frenzy. With players being leaner now and wearing lighter footwear and the pace of the game being quicker, these things happen even more nowadays. 30 years ago you practically had to stab someone to get sent off with all sorts of challenges which are outlawed now at best ignored or unpunished
Same goes for penalty decisions and free kicks etc, it is supposed to be a contact sport, so you should be able to make contact with an opposing player, youre just not allowed to foul them-there is a difference! You simply cannot go near an attacking player and attempt a tackle now if you are defending the box as Melchiot found out on Saturday
That said horrific injury and hope the lad gets well soon
PS Imagine the media frenzy if he’d been English :shock:3 March 2010 at 9:58 pm #25163”S you think Ramsay deserved to have his leg snapped because he was the quicker player?
