The Wigan midfield stuttered badly until McArthur came on for McManaman.
Then Wigan immediately took control, with Gomez playing further forward. They had just twenty-five to score a goal – and managed it! Beausejour combined neatly on the left with Maloney, and created several chances. Gomez created the goal.
Beausejour has been an essential part of the winning teams against Everton, Newcastle (when he scored before Di Santo replaced him for the last ten minutes) and Norwich. He does exactly what Martinez requires.
I’d like to see McArthur back in the team, and Di Santo too. But everybody will be required before the season ends.
Earlier on this season I slated Beausejour, and quite rightly so too. He looked unfit, overweight, and very lethargic.
But the guy has worked hard, obviously lost weight, and is now a crucial team member. He looks less the man yet twice the player! Definitely fitter, a good outlet on the left.
