it was poor in my opinion inasmuch as there didn’t seem to be any urgency, far too slow and predictable in the build up. it appeared to me at times that it was us with ten men. when they attacked us they did it with pace, something we didn’t do. i just don’t get it with gomez, how slow is he ? why does he keep getting picked ? and what about our free kick from which they scored ? absolutely diabolical. any other team in that position would have shot for goal, not us , 3 players fannying around, not only that, we left just one man back, it was an accident waiting to happen. we had been warned previously how quick they were on the break, did we heed it ? no, we didn’t. all the years i played amateur football , i have never ever seen anybody arse about with a free kick like we did. it was crying out for somebody to just to twat it. it worked when maloney did it !!!

I have been watching football for 50+years and Gomez is the worst, laziest, player I have seen to get continually picked by the manager week in week out. QPR went down to 10 men,… we started with 10 men What does Martinez see in him??? :( :( :(Hmmmm John Robertson was an absolute maestro, wasn’t he? And that Steven Appleton? Legend.
Gomez has more creative vision than any of our other players. Surely you’ve not forgotten his through ball for Kone v Norwich?
Can we stop slating individuals please? No need for it. We need to be behind every player at this stage of the season.
8 April 2013 at 1:32 am #108072At least the QPR fans took the responsibility off our fans by doing the booing for us !
8 April 2013 at 1:36 am #108075Why blame gomez. It was an allround poor performance from the attack minded side of things anyway. Apart from the goal, maloney (&kone) didnt have good games IMO. But a point gained.
8 April 2013 at 1:44 am #108082Gomez didn’t have the best of games but hey who did.very tough today.that point may be the difference?
8 April 2013 at 2:00 am #108090Gomez wasn’t great; but, I didn’t think he was any worse than most of our players – without him I think we would have looked even worse than we did attacking the 10-men. I thought that McCarthy was really poor today – though everyone passed poorly & had giveaways – even Maloney.

I think that’s where Bob has got him wrong. McCarthur should be starting and Gomez should be coming on as a sub. Worst in 50 years though? Come on, Im 28 and can think of about 10 at least who have taken the piss out of the jersey.
8 April 2013 at 3:59 am #108165BTW Bronxbomber – have you seen there’s a radio programme on R4 at 7pm on Wednesday evening “100 Years of the New York Yankees: A Bronx Tale”?

Case very much of major opportunity missed. QPR down to 10 etc. Ball retention very poor; one would have thought Wigan NOT QPR were playing with 10 men, happy to play down time to last 15 and then hope to nick a goal, sloppy in possession, careless in giving away cheap free-kicks, always susceptible to a goal from set-play (you could almost see them nicking a goal – admittedly not in the way it came about (open play). In the end, Maloney got us out of jail (great free-kick).
Overall, very disappointing. Given ourselves a bigger hill to climb to escape the dreaded drop (Villa in form, Sunderland likely to pick up, Stoke points in bag / better GD, Latics tough games particularly City and Arsenal). Thinking we need 11 points to stay up …. now no mean feat.
8 April 2013 at 11:40 am #108178At least the QPR fans took the responsibility off our fans by doing the booing for us !One of our esteemed group texted me during the game to say Gomez must have thought he was playing at home with all the abuse he was getting.
One of his less productive games yesterday, but he was by no means on his own in that regard.

I think in the 20 minutes of the game I saw he was hit with 2 or 3 absolutely shocking tackles and that doesn’t include the Zamora one.

Gomez does far better when he comes on just to change things around be he always seems to struggle when he’s on from the start. On this occasion he wasn’t on his own, there were at least 5-6 others who were just as bad.
Last season we hit a patch were we got our act together, confidence running high and feared no one. This season were hot and cold but mainly luke warm.
This season is probably the most important season we “need” to stay in the Prem. With Premiership payments hitting nearly 100 million per club and the chance of European football we stand a far far better chance of attracting players and renewing contracts than any other season we’ve had.I’m sorry to say but looking at our fixtures then judging us on our premiership performances of late I just can’t see were the points are gonna come from. I prey I’m wrong and we go to City and catch them on a bad day but I’m not hopeful :(
