Should we be afraid? Has Uncle Dave cracked under the pressure? 5/4 with Sky Bet ths evening…
Brought the dingles up then took our dear neighbours down..
5 June 2013 at 4:04 am #115363I don’t want him particularly, but the key phrase in what you write is “brought the dingles up”. In other words he has a track record of getting a team out of the Championship. Isn’t that what we want, or am I missing something?
5 June 2013 at 4:11 am #115365Not missing anything.. Has a proven record of getting a team out of the championship no-one can deny..
Other thoughts:- Lives locally, no compensation to pay, available immediately
And in fairness when he took B****n down it was on the last day of the season and had a similar bad luck with injuries (and heart attacks) that Bobby had this year..
In Whelan we trust!?
5 June 2013 at 10:38 am #115368Just seems like an easy out does this, If true. There are far more managers with potential than Coyle. Though he did do a good job at Burnley and in Scotland but hit a brick wall with funds at Bolton.
I don’t think Whelan is interested in progression though. All money to him, No other chairman pimps out his managers or players. It’s a laughable way to conduct yourself if you were slightly interested in progression. Money, money, money, Sod the fans. We don’t deserve a football club after all though do we as we don’t sell out every game according to him and line his pockets. If he doesn’t get his own way he cries to the relevant people who will listen. You won’t get bums on seats if you don’t show that you want us to progress. Not just spending cheap and hoping for a fluke promotion to come straight back down again. It’s time to hand the club over. If it’s in profit then it will sell, Not how Dave makes out how no one wants it, no money ever comes in, not a pot to piss in blah blah.
5 June 2013 at 11:09 am #115372He’s probably the cheapest option.
5 June 2013 at 1:01 pm #115383I can’t watch a team managed by OC I’m afraid, just my football morales kicking in.
There’ll be more twists and turns in this managerial replacement. I’d be a layer of anything around evens at this point of any manager put up until weekend.

I would’nt be surprsed if we dont get him’Rene M.and its been sorted weeks ago like Moyes and Bobby was.

What exactly do you think Whelan lines his pockets with when all the money received from sales is needed to merely keep the club afloat?
It would be a case of ‘sod the fans’ if the club went into administration, but that hasn’t happened and we’ve had eight years as the smallest club ever to play in the Premier League – with an FA Cup win, and you’ve got one man to thank for all of that.
‘You won’t get bums on seats if you don’t show that you want us to progress.’ That’s not entirely true. After finishing 10th in the Premier League, the club tried to increase season ticket prices and the average attendance dropped. If finishing 10th in your first season in the Premier League isn’t progress, I don’t know what is. Even if the club filled the empty 6,000 or so seats for the entire season, they’d make around £3million extra. Wiganers turn up if it’s cheap.
Whelan has said for years that’s he’d sell the club, and there isn’t exactly a queue of Arab billionaires waiting to snatch his hands off.
People don’t buy football clubs to make money, so the fact we’re in profit is irrelevant – otherwise after you’d bought it, it’d take you fifteen years or more just to break even. What’s the point?
But you want him to merely hand it over? To who exactly and why should he?

Surprised you have took this man on Standish.
Yosser criticises Whelan’s ambition to get bums on seats yet openly admits he doesn’t attend many games…
He cant do anymore than he has to get bums on seats in the past 8 years aside from financially cripple himself, the club and his family after he passes.
5 June 2013 at 10:12 pm #115446we know one thing there wont be many bums on seats next year if coyle gets it
5 June 2013 at 10:15 pm #115447we know one thing there wont be many bums on seats next year if coyle gets itI’ll be there if he appoints David Dickinson.
I support the club foremost not the manager.
5 June 2013 at 10:35 pm #115453chatting with a Bolton fan today about this and his views on the OC reign was that the team wasn’t fit enough, spent too much time in training simply playing 5-asides and did little else – did zero set play work, plus the team had little/no-structure at all when it took the field.
hmmmmmmmm, not a great endorsement :(
think he is a god-botherer too, which doesn’t sit well with me either :(
5 June 2013 at 10:44 pm #115455We could do with God on our side to be honest.
In the past we have had Jesus, Moses and Mohamed.

I just don’t like the man. I think he is a leech. And i know that he is a nasty piece of work.
As you say, I still support Wigan Athletic but i don’t have to like everybody.
6 June 2013 at 3:16 am #115493How do you KNOW he is a nasty piece of work?
I hope people are not against coyle because he is ex bolton…as its been pointed out already, al habsi has his own song and he
Is ex bolton. My hero from the eighties..tony kelly is a bolton legend…david lee, scott green were huge players on our rise through the
Lower league’s.I would rather have coyle, than rene whoever he is, but thats just my opinion…to be fair, how many mistakes has whelan
Made manergerial wise?…rioch maybe, hutchings definately…he got a decent record to be fair. -
