STOKE and SUNDERLAND are after him. Just goes to show the serious lack of ambition and idiocy of Martinez and Whelan. People accep we are a stepping stone for players going to the likes of Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea etc. We dont even bat an eyelid when we sell to Everton, Aston Villa, Spurs, as they are bigger clubs and it is a step up for a player lucky enough to be bought.
But STOKE??? The administration at the club is pathetic. Now we are a selling club to the likes of Stoke? What next? Cardiff? You would think that our lovable inept manager wouldnt open his mouth, unless Man Utd or someone of that ilk had come in for Fig. But no, you can imagine what went on in the Chairmans office
“Bobby, i want to sell figarinio or whatever his name is, but they will only let me have 25 words in t’evenin post classifieds for 12 quid”
“Si, Mr Whelan, i will go out to the national media, and announce i will be selling him, and we can get as much as we can in a pre-summer move following his goal at stoke, get it signed and sealed now, before any dip in form” says Bob head.
“Thats right lad, and that 8 million will look great when im down the cash machine drawing 30 quid out for a few scoops in t’orange house”
“Will i get any of it for new players?” says a wide eyed bobby head
“Dont be daft lad, you can play that young lad Edman at the back, and Darlington have got a young 19 year old, who got a trial through Jimmy Saville who only wants 30 bob a week, and he can work down t’factory too……bloody foreigners, think im made of money!”
Maybe if the Wigan public showed a greater desire to support their local football team then that may encourage the better players to stay and persuade Whelan to demonstrate the ambition you believe he lacks.
So you think Martinez has just come and volunteered a statement regarding Figueroa? Do you not think he may have been pressed on the issue as a result of his goal on Saturday?
Martinez hasn’t stated that he is going to Stoke or Sunderland, merely that he expects the player to move on. He’s being realistic, not defeatist, or showing any lack of ambition.
The player won’t be forced out, but if he wants to go, what do you do? Force him to stay?
We are a selling club, and always will be in this league, and some of our supporters need to start realising this. We haven’t the resources available or fanbase to sustain our competitiveness, and even the likes of Sunderland or Stoke can offer higher wages etc.
Our prize assets will always move on at a profit, and after the weekend, he is probably the most sought after player we have.
He will go, and we will find another unknown foreign player to fill the void – who in turn will be sold on again in a couple of seasons.
He is going to Sunderland FACT !! Watch this space. As for wonder goal, one swallow doesn’t make a summer ! He has been earmarked for Sunderland ever since Bruce left and he will get his man for sure ! The club should know this and have a contingency plan in place but me thinks that they will not and we will be missing another half decent player !
Talk about over reaction it’s obvious as soon as owt’s in paper regarding a player of this club the alledged fans get the knife sharpened and ready for use
Mighty_ass, what a pathetic post, why did you bother?
Sorry it couldnt have been as eloquent and well structured as one of your multi-posts David. Next time i will try doubly hard to ensure i get maximum irritation from you.
Oh, and thanks for the compliment on my ass. Not used to getting them from men though, however, naming oneself after a singer of Mr Grays ilk, i can understand why you would find yourself drawn to it. However, im not that way inclined, so your efforts would be better chanelled elsewhere, and perhaps you would get the ‘result’ you are looking for. Hope this helps.
Heard from a Sunderland fan that it’s nailed-on he’s moving there in January. And as for all Bob’s “not for sale” talk: remember Lee Cattermole? Bob’s a great man, but will he stand up to big Dave, the man who brought him into English football, and assents to him employing Graham Barrow as a Premier League coach? I doubt it. Aff mon is spot on.

Yes, that’s the story and I think the rest of us know that. Could have been said in one line. The rest of the donkey’s post is pathetic and a waste of time. Just like his response.

What would you prefer Whelan to have done then? Appoint Martinez -assuming you were in favour of that – then say to him the backroom staff you want to bring in are not good enough for the Premiership so I’ll decide who they should be!
