my nephew and his mates sit in the south stand and are thinking about getting a drum for next season to get an atmosphere going. I know its not everyones cup of tea but he would like to know whether people think its a good idea or not. I sit in the east south end and think it would liven things up down that end as well.
I sit reasonably close to the drum in the East, it isn’t that annoying and it does get an atmosphere. I think what the South Stand needs most is a large amount of consistent set of fans in there.
Definitely a good idea for me. I’m in the east and the drum is key to the atmosphere. Not getting it started but keeping it going and also for the noise levels. The south stand needs something, the better the atmosphere the more people will keep coming back (although that’s mainly based on results more than anything). I’m all for it and would encourage him to go for it.
I’m a NIMBY so I’ve no objection to it at all because it’s never going happen anywhere near where I sit!
More of an issue with me is that “Little Wigan” racket played after we score. Corny and embarrassing, like we need reminding how to respond to a goal. Get rid of it and let’s celebrate properly!
Nay Lad, tha doesn’t need a drum !
At th’owd Springy we sang proper footy songs !
Much more tribal, and far better atmosphere !
Them days were proper !
So just consult the archives and hand out some song sheets !
Oh I’m a knock kneed chicken, I’m a bow legged hen,
Never been so happy since I don’t know when,
I walk with a wiggle and talk with a squawk,
Doing the Wigan boot walk !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think you’d better stop now. You’re making me all nostalgic and emotional!
You are highlighting my point perfectly. That cringe-worthy “Little Wigan” shite is killing any originality which may want to rear its head. It’s systematic of the Soccer AM, happy-clappers brigade, who think football was invented in 1992.
I despise it with a passion and it should stop.
